I've always got a lot of projects on the go, not all poker tables so I thought I'd start a new thread about the miscellaneous going ons around the Chanman workshop.

Not a lot of info going into these posts, more just photos and descriptions of what's happening.

To kick it off, a dining table cover going to a customer who's ordered a 118"x44" cash table. His dining table cover is enormous. Solid oak, here it's dry fit and getting ready for glue up. Then onto the CNC it goes for the oval shape.

11' boards, 160" track to trim the edges.

I'm also working with Gear on a relabel project. Locals around here really like the slugged metal chips unfortunately. It doesn't help that they're cheap.

500 chips for one customer

700 more chips for a different customer. I've since done another 500 chips, all 100's for the same 2nd customer.

Labels are expected to be done tomorrow, then it's fun times applying 3400 labels.

I hear the same thing at my games. “Why are these chips so light?they feel weird. I dont like them they should be heavier

Damn - single piece topper with skirting?

Yep, it's a big one. I hope he doesn't have to move the cover very far when he's not using it.

What type of finish will you use on the table top cover?

It's getting a black dye, then a satin lacquer finish.

OK, at first i read it was table top and not table top cover, i'm always interested to see what people are using for table finishes.

Ah gotcha. I've bounced around using different finishes. I started off using wipe on polyurethane, then I started to spray my finishes. I started with regular polyurethane, then a water based poly, and now water based lacquer.

Ok, i'm using Sayerlac for my clear finishes. Very happy with results. (tried General Finishes, Sherwood, ICA)

But i also know a fine furniture maker that rolls out spar varnish for his table tops ! and gets fantastic results. Which blows my mind.

But,,,, still not sure i like the water based lacquer for a table top or counter finish. We don't get a lot of call for them. So they are out of my comfort zone.

But a table cover, i could see for sure.

Their tools are great, I have their track saw, trim router, and 2 of their sanders. Pricey but well worth the investment.

Another side project has been an auction from the Edgwater Casino in Downtown Vancouver. I went there on Monday to check out their preview and the stuff was ok, but nothing awesome. I decided to bid online from my office on Tuesday and ended up buying way more than I was expecting to. Today, I went to pick it all up and despite being there for several hours I couldn't pack it all into the truck before they closed.

In total I got 4 poker tables, 9 blackjack tables, 33 rolling chairs and 10 dealer chairs for @GoStumpy. The tables come with some of the hardware such as the drop boxes, chip trays, bill and chip slots and rakes.

Small preview of the stuff I got.

Indeed, I have a whole wack of them. Though if any of the tables get resold they would probably end up going with the tables.

Last 2 runs to the casino today. I was only supposed to do 1 but there was a mixup at the auction. I got 33 rolling casino chairs, but almost every chair had a duplicate. So 2 chairs got the same tag, meaning I got 60+ chairs instead of 33. Great that I go extra chairs at no extra cost, but crappy that I now have to find space to store all of these chairs.

Some are decent, none are horrible.

Got a call from the auctioneer today: "We have 3 tables that nobody took, if you can come get them they're yours." Another drive down to the casino today to grab 2 baccarat tables and another blackjack table.

On the plus side, a bunch of tables had some money between the felt and the table base which didn't make it into the drop boxes. I ended up accumulating over $100 from all the tables, and there was a leftover $5 chip in one of the drop boxes and a single $0.50 chip stuck to the underside of one of the tables too. It's the little things...

I think there's more value in the hardware than the tables. I'd be happy to refurbish and sell any though. I'm not going to put any time into it though to do the work before there's a buyer. Last thing I need is 12 refurbished tables that nobody wants to buy.

Ummm. anymore projects going on? ;)

Oh definitely, I've got a very hush hush top secret project for a high profile client.

Some cabinets which are being built to hold some heavy duty machinery. 350lbs on the smaller ones and double that for the bigger one.

These are all upside down right now as they needed lots of extra bracing. Fronts are getting doors with locks and the units will be getting a matte black laminate finish.

1st one, the top is still loose and none of the edges have been trimmed flush yet:

For another customer, the local casino down the block, some step stools for the short dealers at the tall stand up tables. These still need another coat of paint then carpet goes on top.
