What chips (pleasantly) surprised you? (1 Viewer)

Is strip poker different in France? I’m confused. lol
Well, we start with lots of extras shirts, caps etc, just like in your post. Didn't mean more than that.

They’re obviously not Paulsons like many mentioned in previous posts but I was surprised about the look and feel of web mold hybrids from @justincarothers.

As far as ceramics go, I really enjoy these a lot whenever they hit the table.
I think that’s probably one of the more consistent experiences on here. Also with comparison to early Tina card molds. The web molds are great chips

A friend of mine has a set of PNY we have used for years. Broken in and just as buttery as any other.

These are some of the best shuffling chips I’ve had. They feel awesome with that old leaded TRK *clack clack** sound instead of the **click click* sound new chips make

With clay it’s soooo much about wear. There’s something maybe intellectually satisfying about mint chips but after some wear they’re gonna be soooo much better.

When I ordered these ages ago, I wasn't really into hot stamped chips, and I thought the flame mold was boring. While the BCC flame mold still doesn't excite me, I absolutely love the colors of the chips, and I can't imagine covering any of them with a label.

My pics don't do them any justice at all.

Samurai Palace look, feel, stack, and sound great. Much nicer in person imo.

I meant the click click sound asm/cpc new Paulsons and bcc make. Old leaded THC and TRK make clack clack sound. Mint or worn. Still make that sound.

I completely agree. I used to think that the mold contributed a lot to the chip's sound, and that's partly true. But the chip's formula also plays a huge role. Old lead-based THCs, in any condition, have an absolutely fantastic feel and sound.
Just try them once and you'll understand what I mean. 👌

I took no offense. I was just confused. I get it now. Missouri weather this time of year requires more outfit changes than JLo in her prime. We had a day not long ago that started at around 20c, got up to 35c any sunny…perfect day, only to drop to -10c and have a blizzard by mid afternoon. And during the blizzard, we had tornado warnings and thunderstorms. In a month, it will just be hot as balls and no surprises. Lol For now, we have a lot of outfits on standby. 😂

For me it's the Paulson Stardust Poker Mansion, out of a casino in Canada, both Cash and Tourney chips.

I was expecting just a regular Paulson feel only with a house mold. To me however, they don't feel exactly like Paulsons, they are very unique. In a way they seem to have a little rubbery feeling almost as if they included a tiny bit of rubber in the clay composition. So yeah, pleasantly surprised with how the chips fee/play but also with their uniqueness.

I was pretty sure I hated the TP avocado $25s and almond $5ks. Turns out, those are two of my favs irl. Pics don’t do them justice, at all. Fortunately for me, the community had praised the avocados enough, I felt compelled to sample a rack, which immediately lead to acquiring a few more. lol

No chip is safe in your hands, lol. They all hit the workshop, huh?

Sunfly hybrids. I have a tribute set for a certain casino near and dear to me, and I prefer them to the real thing.

Royals, was very surprised, especially after handling the Majestic's, and hating those. They shuffle so smoothly.

Dibs on the 5's, or T100, or both!

@BGinGA has also always spoken very highly of these. It's tough with how many different product offerings they have to know which are the good/better ones but these seem maybe slept on

Dibs on the 5's, or T100, or both!

Funny thing, I sold the $25s and $100s for what I thought was crazy money back in the day. Nowadays that price would be laughably cheap. Ended up replacing the $25s with SPM CPCs, added CPC fracs as well…

I hope you have some of those high denoms.

The Tourney set would never get broken up is my guess since there’s likely a good demand for the whole thing. But yeah, that Midnight Blue T100 is money!

One that comes to mind is the old model Chipco unicorn chips. There were some that came from a cruise ship, and they had this amazing weight and feel plus a bunch of texture. They were very different from the cheap, light plastic versions that I've seen elsewhere. That was a pleasant surprise that I haven't seen again in a long time.

That clack that leaded TRK's make is like no other  One thing I do find interesting is how different CPC molds sound. Quite a range.

These Dillinger’s chips surprised me. I never had enough of these to shuffle so I wasn’t sure if they were any good.

They shuffle really well and are nice and quiet. Only question is keep the current label or murder these?

-Casino Nacional de Cuba
-The Bee or smth like that
-Miller's Bar
-The Cavalry Club and almost every set by @Pshypher1000
-Almost every set by @JeepologyOffroad
-My own Athenian Owls and Pesta Horseshoes 1895 :)
All of them, unmistakenly CPCs!

Yes! I always confuse the unicorns with those Bud jones low end suits chips. I think both were often used for fracs and they had a similar feel. And they felt good.

I had bought some BRPro ceramics of FB marketplace in my early chipping days. Added more on occasion when available here. I had never used them until….

Recently got pre BRPro Nevada jack ceramics in play in a friends game.

I did cull about 20 spinners out if what was bought. The remainders were tremendous. Stacked and shuffled great.

Leaded clay is great but realistically good ceramics are 85% “there”.
