100 × 25¢
250 × $1
175 × $5
75 × $25

This would be my first home set, so if there’s a cleaner or more standard setup for a 25¢/50¢ cash game, would be helpful.

100 x frac
200 x $1
200 x $5
80 x $25
20 x $100

This is a frequent go-to base breakdown for those stakes. Some want more fracs for less change making, some want to make double fisted big bets and require more fives, some games play smaller and won’t need 100s for the foreseeable future etc, YMMV

'''Eriks, That one is the way to goo. I used to have way more fracs because more chips is fun, but can be overkill

Personally, and from my own experience, for heavy .25/.50 or .25/.25, 100 fracs ain’t enough.

All my cash sets generally are built the same. I usually host 6-8 man cash games, and I’ve had multiple games with over $2K of the bank in play. I even reached $3K a couple weeks back. So definitely YMMV

How many players? How do they gamble? Rebuys? I allow rebuys up to the big stack, and believe me, the chips pile on. Here is my blueprint for success (not denying it’s exorbitant, but I have room to grow and even run up $1/2). Additionally, what’s your budget?

200 x fracs
200 x $1
400 x $5
80 x $25
20 x $100

100 x 0.25 = $25
200 x $1 = $200
300 x $5 = $1500
80 x $25 = $2000
20 x $100 = $2000

700 chips with a total bank of $5,725. This would work for $0.25/$0.5 up to $0.5/$1 games. Ideally you want around 5000x big blind as your bank. There’s lots of opinions here, but the above is a good start and you can choose to add/reduce from there.

I agree with @Eriks and @Jeevansluck answers as well, you’ll get a few variations however these are the core of a reasonable set and it’ll come down to your preference of 100 or 200 fracs and 200/300/400 x $5s.

Yeah, I think the MINIMUM is:

$0.25: 100
$1: 150
$5: 250
$25: 80
$100: 20

I only subscribe to this breakdown personally if I’m making a set to cover two tables (I just double all the above), as I have more flexibility there. But generally agree with just rounding up to x100 in the $1s/$5s for a single table set (and a bit more $5s can be fun).

This with another rack of fracs. Why? Because I need an even amount of racks ocd. And with only 100 fracs on the table there's constant change making. Guys putting out a $1 or $5 for the blind and his neighbor breaking it for him. Give everyone a barrel of fracs & a barrel of $1's with their buy in and that doesn't happen. Plus....M0aR! M0aR! M0aR!

No too many 1s not enough 5s

It’s fine. Everyone here is psychotic about $5’s. I think more 25¢’s works better.

$1500 in JUST $5’s for a .25/.50 game. If you need $1500 in $5’s, you shouldn’t be playing .25/.50. $5k+ bank for .25/.50 is just crazy.

I agree with @suchj0sh that what several people are recommending are pretty overkill if OP is only playing .25/.50 forever, but since OP mentioned it's his first set it's possible they bump the stakes at some point. Because of that, I don't mind recommending some more 5s like what @Kam suggested.

Here's a simple truth - there is no one size fits all solution. Some .25/.50 games need a $500 bank. Some need a $3,000 bank. Some people like having two racks of fracs on the table; some people have no need for it. Some people think you need more than a barrel of $1s per player, some don't. The only way to know what's right for your game is to host a bunch of times and see how it goes.
100 - 200 - 300 - 80/20 works great for me.

If you play 10 handed, yeah. But who wants to play 10 handed? Ha… 8 max handed for me with 12x = 96!
Hell yes! 96 fracs, 160 $1s, and then get on the the important stuff - the $5s!

BUT WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THE EXTRA 4 CHIPS!! Drives my OCD crazy. ;)

Our crew also is usually 8 max handed but the extra couple of full stacks is nice for rebuys.

(FWIW... 120 fracs also divides evenly for 15 starting stacks of 8/x/x)

4 extras? :)

Edit: And if forced into a 10 player game.. 5 players get x12, 5 players get x8. Boom.

Here's a simple truth -
100 - 200 - 300 - 80/20
please let the record show that @upNdown and I agree on a single poker point! Only took 3 years ;)

The 79 Corvette Stingray is the best Corvette of all time, and it isn't even effing close.
Pippin is the best hobbit of all time, and it isn't even effing close.
Rocky IV is the best Rocky movie of all time, and it isn't even effing close.
This is the best cash set breakdown for .25/.50, and it isn't even effing close.

Month over month, I get 4 racks of 5s on the table. Not everyone is playing Boring games that only use 2 cards. Building a robust chip set to cover multiple games means you’re not wasting money and you’re not limited to only inviting nits to your game.
