Hello all!.
I have been kicking around an idea of giving the tournament winner a coin as the 'trophy'. I have ordered some copper rounds (image below)from a metal broker. I use them as my card protecter and a ball mark in golf.
Does anyone know how to get custom coins made? Do I get a stamp made, then melt the metal?
Any input or ideas are appreciated.
Thank in advance and I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Love this idea — a physical trophy that doubles as a card protector is brilliant. Way more personal than a plaque gathering dust on a shelf.

For custom challenge coins, the process is pretty approachable. You don't need to do any casting yourself — there are a handful of companies that handle the whole thing: you give them your artwork, pick your specs (size, thickness, plating, finish), and they manufacture them from a die. Quantities start pretty low (50-100 pcs for reasonable prices), though for a yearly champ coin you'd probably want to order in small batches or even one-offs, which some places do at higher per-unit cost.

A few options to look at:
- Challenge Coin Nation and Coins For Anything are popular online services that cater to exactly this kind of custom order. You can upload simple artwork and they'll do a digital mockup before production.
- Etsy has a handful of custom coin makers that do small batch or even single pieces if you want something truly one-of-a-kind each year.
- If you like the copper round aesthetic you already have, some knife and metalworking shops can do simple laser engraving on copper blanks for a more handmade feel.

The die-struck coins from a coin company look the most "official" and have a satisfying weight and detail. The laser engraved copper blanks have a more rustic, handcrafted character that might actually suit a home game better.

One idea: put the year and winner's name on the back, leave the front with your home game logo or a design that stays consistent. That way each coin in circulation is unique but they feel like a set. Makes winning one even more meaningful.

Very cool. Thank you for the input. I was surfing the net early and found the 2 online services you noted. I will definitely look at the other options too. Thanks again.
If/when I get this done, I'll post some pics.
Thanks again,
Charlie

Any time!

My local card room has a "Silver Sunday" NLH tournament. The winner gets a 1 OZ silver coin in addition to the first place portion of the prize pool. It's a pretty cool idea and usually gets a good amount of runners!

Another thing Im working on. I run a poker tourney every year for a hockey team . The owner of the hockey team owns a ranch in MT and flies the team up before the season for team building. I'd like to get a coin with the team logo and the ranch logo and year. All would get a coin for playing. Then have a second coin designed for the winner on the tourny.
I'll be digging into the online services during the week.
Just what I need is another poker project. My wife is a saint.

With the price of silver these days, the coin could be more than the prize pool.
