This may or may not have been asked here before, but I’ll go ahead and embarrass myself anyway.

I’ve technically smoked cigars in the past—by that I mean once in a very pale blue moon—so I’m basically a beginner who knows just enough to cut and hold one the right way (most of the time). Lately, I’ve had a random craving to get into cigars a bit more seriously and figured this would be the right place to ask.

I’m looking for a few recommendations that aren’t too heavy and would be friendly for someone just starting out. I’ll be in Pasadena next week and usually stop by Cigars by Chivaz with my brother-in-law, so I can run any suggestions by the owner and go from there.

Well, I might get some hate for recommending this cigar because of the price, but my first cigar was the Davidoff No.2, and I still smoke it to this day.

I don't need to say too much about it if you watch the video. It is pricey, but if you start out smoking fine, hand rolled cigars you will have a better first experience.

Kinda like fine liquor, the better stuff costs more than the "Cheap Stuff"

anyway - this is always my recommendation for newbies and have not had any negative results, as I like to say "your milage may vary..."

I kinda figured that much. Once you try the good stuff and you’re able to decipher it from the crap you’ve smoked before, game over.

Circling back on SensorPush. Used it for around 5 years and my general impression is that it is a poor product. Consistently reads well above the humidity, even after 2-3 calibrations, when tested against multiple other hygrometers. Right now, it’s a full 10% points higher in two of my humidors. The others are around 5% off. Pretty disappointing. I’m moving on and using simpler, far less expensive hygrometers that, while they require the Mk1 hand and eyeball to monitor, have proven far more reliable.

Anyone else have this experience?

At a shop with a smoking lounge. Usually can’t smoke in any building in Virginia this store’s been here for a long time and grandfathered in. The guy here recommended this smoke and it’s really good.

Padron 50th Anniversary. This one had some amazing tooth to it. IMO: Strong cigar. Spice bomb the first third, then mellowed to coffee and chocolate for the second third, to a rich espresso on the final third. Smoke galore. This is the best cigar I’ve ever smoked. Highly recommend, but on a full stomach.

snogars have become one of my favorite....that and autumn cigar, riding mower cigar, kids playing in yard cigar, at the beach cigar, poker on a deck cigar, indoor cigar....man soo many good cigars LOL

Had a Herrera Esteli for the first time this past weekend and was instantly one of my favorites (taste and burn were fantastic). Was told the red labels are even better, so that's the next stick I'll be buying/trying out. (I'm no connoisseur as an FYI.)
