How about making this available on Apple TV apps or is that just stupid?

I may be doing something wrong. But my iPads always mirror the screen my phone is on. In the old app, I had each iPad with the app on it and then I would share the tournament to them. The screen changes when I change my phone screen.

So, I just did a little trial with your new app. I have one iPad using the QR code read only. The other iPad is logged into my account. My phone is logged into my account. When I change the screen from the timer to seating on my phone, all 3 screens change.

I think we're talking about different things. It is true that in the old app (Poker Timer) and the new app (Poker Club HQ) you can switch the Timer screen to show either the Current Level Clock (the default), Seating, or Payouts, and all connected devices that are viewing the Timer screen will switch to that view. However, on both the old and new apps, if you switch to viewing Settings, or Blind Levels, or Players, or Tables, etc., it will not switch to showing those screens on connected devices that are viewing the Timer screen.

That's actually a great idea! I looked into it years ago for the old app, and it didn't seem like the amount of work would be worth it. But I'll look into it again, maybe there's a better way to make it work now.

Hey guys, original poster of the old thread here - I'm glad this took off and someone picked up the reins! My apologies for abandoning the project, I was going through a divorce at the time and well... life has a way of beating you down. I'm excited to try out the Poker Club app as I get into playing again here.

I'll submit some of the original designs I was working on before, as I'm first and foremost a UI designer more than a coder... it seems like Ron is the man for the coding job! I'm available to work on a fork for the UI if you ever want a UX/UI specialist pitching in on this @AppMakerRonB !

Here's a couple screenshots from the UI I was starting to play with.
Thanks! I'll admit, UX/UI is not my strong suit.

I'd love some feedback on making the app easier on the eyes and easier to use. The UX/UI needs to work for small phone screens, big computer screens, and all sizes in between, so it can be challenging. But I do want the app to look awesome and be easy to use.

Anybody want to chime in with the setup you use most often?
I run the software on my main computer, which is connected to a 65" monitor (I'm old and the vision's going, so I need a big screen). I have a laptop hooked to an old 52" monitor on the opposite wall. In the kitchen my wife's computer also displays the timer, and my work laptop is on the counter near the food. This gives everyone a fair chance to see a clock while on break. Finally, I plan to put my old (1st gen) iPad outside for the smokers to see what is left in breaks.

I don't really need all the bells and whistles of tournament management, as I have done that on an Excel spreadsheet for 17 years. No need to fix something that not only works, but I can operate while into my 3rd martini of the night. If I were new, I'd be all over it.

Every computer should be able to pause/start the clock. I'm not worried about my players interfering. I may be the only host in the world that does not utilize a "host's seat", so easy access to the clock from any seat (using a wireless mouse/keyboard) is a bonus. I don't use my phone though. As convenient as that may be, I use a 65" monitor and Jumbo index cards for a reason.

Most tvs now have a web browser (or you can download one from the App Store), just go to the site and sign in and you’re good. Or if your TV doesn’t have it, buy a $20 fire stick and use its web browser to do that.

The great thing about this cross platform offering is that as long as you can get a device to browse the Internet you should be able connect to the tournament.

Just tried it out on my Sony. Downloaded random web browser to tv apps, went to site, signed in and BAM, timer on tv.

Rin, anyway to recover a tournament I originally saved then accidentally overwrote?

Possibly, were you signed into an account? We have daily backups on the server, so if the version you want to restore was backed up it should be possible.

I was. It was quick though. Ran into a quirk. Playing right now but will check in more detail tomorrow.

Ron, no need to worry about trying to find the tournament I deleted by accident, I highly doubt it was preserved anyway. I wrote over it by accident and it was my own fault when trying to deal with a weird situation I cannot now replicate...lol...total user error getting used to the new seating etc. and how to handle it.

Game Observations:

The tournaments ran great last night. Couple of items for consideration, if they are feasible. Rebuy tournaments can get hectic at times because I am trying keep track of everything, note knockouts, handle rebuy money and dole out chips, etc.

Anyway, a couple of things that slowed me down a bit were:

--For rebuy tournaments, when someone gets eliminated but then rebuys, it would be nice if the app automatically reseats that person back into their same seat they were just eliminated from when I indicate they are a rebuy, as opposed to having to go through the whole seating process every time someone is eliminated. I could be wrong, but I would think it is much rarer for a rebuy player to switch to a new seat as opposed to just being right back in his same seat so would much rather have this seating happen automatically and in the rare event it needed to be adjusted, then adjust. Also, there were times I forgot to seat them again right away after the rebuy so it changes their status because they are clocked as sitting out I guess.

--Love the drag and drop on the seating tables. But I noticed that if I did screw something up I could not just switch players already occupying seats. For example, say on table 1, I made a mistake and needed to switch player 4 seat to player 5 seat and vice versa. Would be very nice if I could just drag one name over to the other seat and then they just switched spots with each other.

--the foregoing was most apparent when I needed to consolidate and try to move people around. This was exacerbated because I did not realize that by hitting the consolidate button, it would just automatically move people from one table and stick them into any open seat at the consolidated table. Would have preferred when I hit consolidate that it gave me the option of where to place the players at the new table.

I now see I could have just not used that auto-seat consolidate button and instead, could have dragged and dropped them to the consolidation table and, once the 2nd table was empty, it would have closed on its own. Now that I know that, I will likely use that method for consolidating moving forward b/c it gives me max flexibility to arrange people correctly. I also made the mistake of not just starting the main table w/ the maximum amount of player seats I would eventually consolidate to, which I won't do again...lol.

Anyway, it would have been great if, once I got 10 seats set for the main table I could have just rearranged the players seated at that table to the correct seat (even if it was occupied) w/out having to do whack a mole of having to move one to an empty spot, move another to right location, move another to empty spot, move to right location, etc.

The quirk I ran into which resulted in the accidental deletion of a saved tournament was that I must have done something really screwy with shutting down tables, and then re-opening or adding a table as I was trying to get people in the right place when we consolidated. After the first tournament ended, I used save and reset. But when I went to the "fresh" tournament to start seating players, for some reason I had my Green table (table 1), Red table (table 2) but then a totally random third table which was identified as "Table 1" and which kept replicating the players I was seating at the "Green table (which is the real table 1). When I went to delete the extra "table 1", which had the duplicate players seated at it, it would then remove them from the "Green table"...lol.

I have no idea how the heck that even happened and have tried to replicate what I did last night to even get in that situation but have been unable to figure it out. Anyway, it was during that period where I was trying to get the 2nd game started that I inadvertently overwrote the first game's save just so I could get things running.

All in all though, the trial run under real game conditions was a great success. Everyone liked it and the hiccups were user error and arose from me just not being extremely well versed in knowing how to work within the idiosyncrasies of the seating system. I think it will be even smoother next time.

Excellent app and I highly recommend everyone give a shot.

Thanks for the fantastic feedback!

I've added the following to my to-do list:
- When drag-dropping players, if you drop them on another player, the two players should switch seats.
- When reseating a rebuy/reentry, default to same table and seat they were previously at, if it's still open.
- Try to replicate and fix the bug where a duplicate table 1 can appear.

Subscription, and I'm gone for good.

One time pricing, I'm cool - but I'm from the era for shareware, where developers made bank because decent human beings donated money to the developer.

I'm not sure if there are decent people under the age of 30 anymore, so this concept may be broken today.
^^^This.

If there's a lifetime pay-once option, that's the one I usually go with.

I'm curious, how do you display the tournament timer screen on the monitors? I sometimes use an old phone, tablet, or laptop connected to the monitor via HDMI cable. In my experience, it's proven more reliable than depending on AirPlay or Google Cast.

I am working on a solution to support read-only tournament sharing that will automatically switch to showing the latest running tournament. That way, there will be no need to update each remote device to display the new tournament when it changes. This will be particularly useful if you run multiple tournaments in a night.
I do it the way you do. Currently making use of either a laptop or an old S10 and a usb-c hdmi dock to run the timer. I have an hdmi replicator that then sends the display to multiple monitors. Chromecast is just too unreliable. A bluetooth keyboard allows me to manage the timer controls when necessary.

New release of Poker Club HQ, version 5.0.0+352:
  • You can now drag a player onto another player to swap seats, even across tables..
  • When a knocked-out player reenters, and is reseated, they’re automatically placed in their previous seat.
  • Fixed a bug where in some cases a duplicate Table 1 would appear.
  • And other smaller bug fixes and improvements.

@Poker Zombie looks like my posts are missing following the restoration. If you need the directions again on how to change the denominations, just let me know.

Found a bug, have a feature idea, or want to influence what gets built next? Check out our new Feedback & roadmap page for details:

@AppMakerRonB -- @Poker Zombie was asking if you could have an option for the full amount of the blinds in thousands to be shown instead of the abbreviated "K". I gave him a long winded response regarding how he could remove the "tocompactdecimalstring" language from the value string in the "blinds" variable, but maybe you could just add an additional variable option with that language removed and call it "full blinds" or something so that if he wants to use that variable instead of the existing blinds variable he will be able to use that format easily if he wants to.

Please keep the compact "K" blind variable though! I think the other one takes up too much real estate, but to each their own.

As Tony pointed out, I had asked about changing the blinds to read x,000 vs xK (15,000 vs 15K for example).

There are a few times that I appreciate the K (Mrs Zombie prefers it on her smaller monitor), but I strongly prefer the zeros.

I did not receive Tony's long winded response (and I haven't done any programming since Fortran) - it was vaporized by the PCF "glitch" that wiped out a few hours of posts.

Sent you a DM but it is pretty simple. Ron might create the variable for you, but you could do it pretty easily on your own if you want. Just let me know if you want a walk through.

Ok, played our first tourney with the new timer. Worked quite well but we did have one glitch. One of our players showed up fine on my phone but the iPad that was logged into the same account, his name was different. Another person helping me keep track of knockouts, also logged into the same account had yet a different name in that position. I sent the debug log to your email.

Other than that, I had a couple of wants but understand if not in your plans to change.

1) on the table view, it says how may players are eliminated. It would be nice also to have a total count of players still in at that time. I know I can count up the seats but it is easier to see 24 players and I can double check to make sure my record keeping is on track. It would be doubly nice if each table, in the middle, said how many players are at that table.
2) on the player page, eliminated players are listed alphabetically rather than the place in which they were knocked out. I found that I can go to the data page and sort by knock out order, but I liked the old timer that showed you the knock out order on the player page
3) on the timer page, if I hit back it takes me to the page with all my tourneys. I didn’t see a way to easily get back to the timer screen without selecting the correct tourney. Would be nice to have a back button on that page as well.

Overall, love the app. It is coming along very nicely. I love the new table view to help my players find their appropriate seat.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm debugging the player name issue right now, and will push out a fix asap.

Let me think about this. I do plan on updating the list to show whether a tournament is running or not. If there's a distinctive look for running tournaments maybe that's enough?

You can track my progress on these issues here: Poker Club HQ Project

Also, anyone can add issues (bugs, enhancement requests, etc.), comment on issues, etc.. To do so does require a GitHub account, but it's free.

I‘ve been using the old App for years, and I really like it. I‘m excited you are working on a new larger version! Finally being able to track bounties is also great!

I would love to be able to have an option to give players a pre-set on time bonus. I know a lot of hosts give out this bonus, it would be amazing if the avg chips/player and bbs in play could be accurate without having to write in every buy in seperately, with or without the chip bonus.

Being able to set max amount of re-buys so that when a players busts his last he is automatically out would be a cool feature too I believe.

Also I‘m missing the € sign.😁

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback and for being a longtime user of the old app!

I am very curious to know what the transition from using the old app to the new app is like, and if there are any pain points that I can make better.

I'd like to replace the old apps with the new app in the near future, but I know from experience that a lot of people that are happy with an app the way it is, are often not happy with any change at all, especially fairly dramatic changes like this one will be.

We often have a buy-in chip bonus for our games too. When I set up the tournament I set the "Starting chips" to include the bonus, and then the first buy-in that shouldn't include the bonus, I just change the Chips amount to the lower, non-bonus number. That updates the default so the subsequent buy-ins also use that lower number. Sometimes I forget and need to undo the buy-in and reenter it with the correct amount.

I've thought about adding another setting called something like "Bonus chips", and then adding a checkbox to the buy-in screen that if checked would record the bonus chips, but then I still need to remember to uncheck the box, so I'm not sure the additional complication is worth it. I could add another setting like "buy-ins before the first level starts automatically get the bonus chips", but I know there's likely going to be exceptions to the rule, and would need to design that in...

I'd love to hear back from more people if something like this would be useful.

We do keep track of every rebuy, so this would be pretty easy to add. I'll add this to the list and try to get some feedback on how to prioritize it.

Our league has been using the old app since our league inception or shortly there after. That is back to 2017. I really like the enhancements so far. Just some growing pains in finding where things are recorded in the app. For one, but no big deal, I just did our scoring spreadsheet. We award a bonus bounty point for knocking out a member in the top three spots. That used to be easy to find. I just had to look for that info and it was under data. No big deal.

The best thing I am missing now is the “share tournament” option. As of now, I have done what you suggest and we all just log into the same account. My only fear with this is that one of my other members that helps keep track of knockouts, will delete some tourney info by accident. I have a few different formats saved. Our year end tourney has different starting by stacks and blinds. I set up a horse tourney that took some time to do and I would be sad if they accidentally deleted that structure.

As for the bounties, we do a $10 bounty. I don’t record that $$ amount in the app. Just the buy in. But I do use the app data to verify the number of bounty chips handed to me at payout equals the number of knock outs recorded in the app.

So far I LOVE being able to name the tables and choose which ones are closed first. Last night was the first time I kept my phone on the table screen and recorded knock outs there. Very easy. Overall I think the new app is a great improvement. I thank you for listening to your fans and making adjustments.

Are you using the web app, iOS app, or Android app?
