Murdering a Shape Inlay? (1 Viewer)

Hi PCF,

What options are there for murdering a chip with a shaped inlay?

Can I label with laminated smooth label once murdered? OR is the only option once murdered i would need another shaped inlay to replace? or to not murder the chip and over label?

If shaped = round, I would handle that like it’s round.

That's a faux-shaped label. The inlay is actually a circle label.

To answer your question, if the inlay is truly shaped, you would need a shaped label to relabel it properly (which @Gear offers I believe). Otherwise, you will be better off overlabeling it.

overlabel or murder. what ever you preference is on that chip. Generally, a shaped inlay means you have leaded chips often from a desirable casino, so murdering shaped inlays is frowned upon by part of the community who want to preserve tbe history of the hobby.

You can tell just by looking at it, may take some time to develop your eye for these things.

I don't think it's "faux texture," it's just how 4-color process (halftone) printing works to give you the desired shade/hue. It's not supposed to be perceptible to our eyes without magnification.

yes. But it would be a lot cheaper and easier to just label right over the existing inlay.

Suggest to OP to check my relabel adventure here (mix of how not to do it and learner curve) I murdered just over a 1,000 indiana grands / horseshoes:

In short, those newer chips are all labels that come off. I would also recommend you check out ‘overlabel’ options, can be a lot simpler and easier.

Pretty sure that all (or nearly all) real cut shaped inlays are only found on Paulson's mostly-older TH&C mold chips (although some newer THC re-orders have had real shaped inlays for consistency).

But iirc, all other Paulson mold chips (RHC, lammer, card-pip/suits, PAULSON CHIPS, 36mm, 41mm, 43mm IHC, 48mm FHC, 50mm, etc.) only have round inlays (with some being printed as faux-shaped). Also true of nearly all THC molds manufactured since the GPI merger.

Could be wrong, as memory isn't what it once was, and too lazy to research.

You can see the marks left over from the original shaped inlay impression. The depth is also too deep which is a result of taking off too much clay so the shaped recess is eliminated.

I would not recommend to overlabel if there is a textured laminate on the original chip.
Ok if smooth, but would choose unlaminated labels to avoid spinners.
If you want to color match a future faux shape, send a sample chip to @Gear

The Cleveland Horseshoe $2.50 chip is very easy to replace the inlay. As others have said, it is a round inlay, not shaped.
