Hi all. I've been a lurker for a while, just joined the site & this is my first post. This is a topic I actually have
some knowledge on...
First, my chipset is Milano. I'm pretty happy w/ them, FWIW. My world was pretty much the dice chips we all know, so from those I'd say they are a definite step up.
I did make the plunge to Milano before I found this site, so I don't know if I'd make the same choice given that. But that's what I have & I'm sticking w/ them.
For the OP, I don't know if that's a legit link/site. I have purchased Milano from WalMart in the past, but they were sleeved bundles, not a large set like that shows. So, I wouldn't necessarily dismiss that vendor outright, but as mentioned, I don't know if that's a legit link or not.
- Don’t buy a pre-packaged set from a giant retailer. They’re almost always garbage. You don’t need $1 chips and $1000 chips. There are several reputable vendors that allow you to configure your own breakdown.
I think this next point is more relevant:
- Do some reading and learning and determine what kind of game you want to host, then you can best pick your chips.
If you just do tourneys, then yes, the $0.25/0.50/1 chips are pretty useless. I do occasionally have some cash games in addition to tourney, so I need both. Get what you'll use.
Right now I can get chips for about $0.44 per (buying a sleeve of 100 from the big A -> Z online store), so let that be a guide for pricing comparison to others.
