Typically not a fan of cup holders - but I used the plastic holders that go on the table underneath the rail etc.

Tables with cup holder do get uncomfortable to rest arms because sometimes the cupholder is where you want your arm and sometimes it’s in the wrong place in relation to where your chips and cards are located. Also when you spread out at the table sometimes it is 45678 handed, and then the cupholders don’t line up with where they need to be your convenience.

I bought a Barrington table that already had the cup holders. They were too shallow, so I replaced them with deeper and wider cup holders which made a big difference in protecting bottles from getting knocked over. That said, if I do a custom build table, I would NOT add cup holders and instead use side tables. The beverage just gets in the way still with a cup holder.

Really? Lol why
They are never in the right spot; my elbows always rest on them, which makes the game uncomfortable. Racetracks are gross. I like to slide the stacks in too often to be bothered to pick them up and put them on the felt. I want a big ass padded rail so I don't hurt myself as I beat my brains out.

My OG table has no cup holders. I have 3 trays and people A. Don't use them, put the drinks on coasters and are liable to knock one over every game night or 2. Use the trays and knock stuff off them on the regular.
Cup holders alleviate all of it.
Ironically, I’ve had two drinks spills in the past 8 months of hosting at least once a week. Both were when players knocked drinks in cup holders over onto the table on the only table I own that has cup holders. To each their own.

it’s easier to knock a drink off a side table or knock over the side table itself than it is to spill a drink in a deep cup holder. And those slide under rail cupholders clutter the playing surface, but more importantly, they obscure people’s chip stacks.
Cupholders in the rail for me!

Indeed, side carts are more risky than adequately deep cupholders, matched with wide and low old-fashioned glasses (in terms of width they must fit perfectly in the cupholders).
Worst thing that can happen is chips into drinks and not vice-versa.

The deeper, wider holders never get in my way. I put my phone next to my drink and still plenty of arm room.
I agree with others that say I think it’s easier to spill from the cart than an in rail cup holder.
If you’re going to do side tables you better put the deep holders in them.

Maybe, but when you spill a drink when on a side table, it is not a big deal

Depends. If you have limited room, cup holders are great. They're great when the cup holders are evenly divisible by the number of players (say you have 8 players and 8 cup holders, each player has a dedicated cup holder, which they can have right in front of them. No confusion. If however you have six players around an 8 seater table, cup holders can become more of an issue. Who gets which one? And that's where spillages happen, as someone accidentally knocks into a bottle in a different cup holder that nobody "owns."

To each their own, but for me, cup holders and it’s not even close. The number of small tables needed for players and how intrusive they can be when walking around the table and anytime you want to move your chair back, etc is super tilting.

Cup holders at the poker table?

No, haha, if it were up to her, the beers would be transferred to a large Tetra Pak with a straw. And all the furniture would be wrapped in plastic. Furthermore, every guest who came in would have to slip into a sterile, human-sized plastic bubble.
I'm in!

Definitely no. I have them in my table and my next table will be without. Get a rolling cart.

My last few table builds have been without cup holders and I provide lots of tray tables. Everyone agrees it’s way better. They have a place for an empty rack, their phone, keys, empties if they’re drinking, snacks, whatever and the table stays clean as a whistle.

Note the table in the top right. You can buy these for $40 on Amazon and they have wheels, adjust in height, spin, etc. I planned on cutting holes in them for cup holders, but players agreed they like them flat for a variety of items. And I can’t even buy materials for $40, so what a steal!

If anyone wants a link for the side tables

I love your thought process, your setup and that you immidiately provided the Amazon link. My man!

I dispise cupholders so when I found this table 2nd hand I was very happy (re-did the felt).
I have some side tables but also printed this foldable cupholders which work quite good. They are out of sight but when players want a drink close to the table they can use those.
Only need to fix the mount because the screwholes weren't good.

That looks like a nice option. So, did you make those cupholders yourself (3D printing), or did they already come with the table (i.e., cupholders available online)?

No, my nephew printed them! I can ask for the design? I paid him €9 per piece but (also for the effort) but assume if you print them yourself they’ll be a lot cheaper.

I like deep cup holders on the rail. My table has under table pull out snack trays that fit a deep plastic bowl, which can also hold phones, keys etc if not used for holding snacks.
