your journey may vary - all i did was use undiluted simple green to clean and then got them drunk in 70% alcohol where i soaked for about 10-15 minutes or until i started to see them flake off with a light brush. Carefully not letting them sit too long to affect the label glue. Some needed a second round but i waited a day.

You can see the three stages below. Juiced - drunk - oiled.

Have you pulled them out since putting away? Any fading or less rich/deep coloration from how they originally were?

I won't lie, that middle barrel in the pic terrifies me.

Yes - take em out every other month or so. Still look good as the day i oiled em.

I had the same panic. “Wtf did i just do” - heart stopped palpitating after a little oil rub. I still have an unoiled barrel - started with 2 racks - 4 barrels complete - i left one barrel un oiled for science - still have one juiced rack. We don’t use a lot of 5s in my cash games.

Awesome, thanks. I'd love to see them all lined up in a rack (w/ none of that cropping/editing) if you get a chance anytime down the line. Seems like this will be the next testing method on my end! Appreciate you sharing.

Clay there is no rule of thumb. I've had some clear up after 5 minutes and some need 2-3 rounds at an hour each just to get it to budge.

Yeah not all foil is the same and not all clay is the same. I’ve been paying attention to my foil a lot and getting a slightly thicker one that’s made for stamping plastics.

It’s the adhesion layer that makes a difference.

No qualms have I about destroying a substantial number of them in the attempt.

I’ve had some luck with 70% alcohol 30 min soak, scrub and another 30 min soak and scrub. Not sure how i feel about soaking chips with inlays yet as but these turned out fairly nice.

Test run for my chips where the inlay is stamped i did the same thing but noticed after the second soak the inlay was getting soaked so while it made them almost gone really could have gone for another round of soaking and scrubbing. I was worried it was going to affect the actual inlay adhesive though.

Interesting thread, thanks. Good to know that alcohol works nicely. Wish I could bring chips to work, lol. You guys reckon I'll get funding for "gentle methods in removing metallic foil on clay chips"?

I’ve been testing various times this week for soaking chips. Small batches of 6 and there is just really no consistency at when the foil lifts. Ive settled on 14 mins per side though and then up to another 5 minutes. After that I’m just letting them air dry for four days. Some are going to need a round 2 but couple of pics from the recent trial. started like this.

These were in the 24-30 min soak range

Below is prob the worst of this batch with almost a 35 min soak total.

no chip color changes and no extreme dry out like you experience with the degreaser combo.
