Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups arrested in connection with an FBI poker probe (10 Viewers)

I still don’t understand the why. Chauncey was getting paid $5m a year for his current job, and earned ~$107m in his career:

It’s not like he only played a few seasons then burned through all his money, he was still making bank.

Poker isn't always about the money, neither is cheating. Mob may have something over him or someone close to him, or maybe he was just chasing a high.

Who knows what he gambles or what demons he has, guess we'll hear more.

I do think the scenario of him being indebted to the mob is the most plausible, because this was my thought as well. If he's a degen gambler betting millions, plus lifestyle, that $100m dries up pretty fast. Who knows, all speculation on my part.

This could also mean the Government uses the NBA people involved in this to testify against the mob. This shit better be on CourtTV or I'll be pissed.

I think Chauncey is just a pawn here for a bigger play. He’s probably stuck between a rock and a hard place right now now.

Right off the bat there's the bar and grill I opened - that thing sinks like 40k a month atm. But paying in 40k is way better than what immediately comes due from the municipal good will business loans and other loans/dues dependent on the cashflow the business shows on paper if I close doors.

Even though momma didn't owe a penny on the 3.2 million dollar pretty standard suburban home I bought her straight cash, she took out a cash-out refinance/home equity loan for "walking around money". I asked her why, she said because auntie did the same thing with the house I bought her. Now I have 2 20k mortgage payments on top of mine.

The NBA health care premium plan requires us to utilize certain drs and screenings in order for us to take advantage of their resources and programs. The wife likes to use our local fam docs, so whether employer sponsored or ACA, I'm out around 36k a year on that.

I don't fit into any bracket that gives financial aid/reprieve. So when I send my 2 kids to Catlin Gabel (private school in portland area), that's $91,000 per year (with 4-6% increase each year).

$5 Million in portland has an estimated take home of about 2.5 mill.

Private school, couple houses, a business venture - bam, you're already out 91k per month of 1.1 mill of your 2.5 mill before any actual living and day to day expenses.

I'm always a bit surprised at people being surprised. IMO "f you" money doesn't kick in until approaching an accessible 25, 50, 100 mill.

Thought the same thing! From that NY Post article, man that site is brutal on mobile

Here I am wondering if the chips for my .25c/.50c game could be duplicated while the chips used in a game with 100k+ pots were purchased by someone going to Amazon, searching for "poker chips" then sorting by lowest price.

Some are surprised that those with access to sound financial advice choose not to follow any of it.
F you money never kicks in if you don’t know how to live within your means.
100 mil can be gone in a day if you’re a dolt.

Yeah if you’re 20 something and given large multi million dollar contracts, especially for sports, you likely don’t know where to find sound financial advice.

Because, likely, your agent, your uncle Tony, your travel team coaches, trainers, parents, older siblings, local business owner, investment firms, various professionals hired by your league and teams, etc. all have financial advice. And half of them are probably saying the other half aren’t offering sound financial advice.

I think it’s great they provide the rookie symposiums and internal resources, but until something like financial advisors working on behalf of and for the Players’ associations (with the PA financially backing restitution for any corrupt/malice/scam), it’s always gonna be a bit of a struggle.

Sounds like a lot of assumptions and excuses.
“you likely don’t know where to find sound financial advice.” I certainly don’t agree with this statement.
Chauncey is not 20 something.

Nothing really new info wise, only maybe a rumor that Gilbert Arenas flipped (but don’t think he’s named) after his recent arrest & gave info.

You’re right, I don’t know Chauncey personally and I don’t personally know what it’s like making millions in my 20s and 30s.

Just spitballing.

PCF is fun today! /s

If you get busted for cheating people out of that much money, which is safer- walking the streets free? Or being locked up in prison?

He’s been saying it on his podcast since yesterday. He walked in with an “informant lunch” and making jokes about being an informant. That’s crazy!

And now he’s mad that people are connecting him to it…
This is one of the few upsides to social media is we can get this stuff. I like how the main issue is that it’s affecting his basketball game!

To be fair to him, it’s wildly different about having a raked game in your house, to being connected with the NY mob and scamming folk out of millions. Buuuuut couple of big basketball NBA linked scandals just a few months apart? Not a huge stretch.
