I've seen a number of WSOP chip sets on eBay over the years, one recently supposedly from the WSOP 2017 Cercle Clichy Montmartre in Paris and others apparent stolen from the main event in Vegas. I've also seen singles for sale, which are clearly authentic.

How likely is it someone out there as a legit set of WSOP chips?

Gulp! Well, I guess the price is justified given the rarity. I wonder how many emails the casino gets daily from people asking if they can buy some.
