Are quotes/time frames from the manufacturer inaccurate?

I've placed two orders through Tina and they put a 30 day lead time on a custom order, but both times they where printed and shipped like 2/3 weeks in. The chips are super cheap, it's the import duties and shipping is where the cost comes back in. That will be country dependent

If you don't mind explaining, what is the difference between "smooth mold" and "textured no mold"? I like the look of your chips and wonder how they compare, feel/quality-wise, to similar ones from Justin.

I think those are different from a ceramic material that would would typically print a full custom artwork on (like those are clay imitation plastic material). My ceramics have zero slippery-ness / spinners and are smooth. But ceramic have a kinda ridged porcelain feel rather than a softer gummier feel, it all comes down to personal preference.

Are the cheap Tina chips good quality chips though? They seem to be listed as 10 gram ceramic chips, but I wonder how nice they actually are.

I'm super happy with the colors and print colors of mine, for sure will last me my life time. But that just me, its what ever your preference is for the feel of chips. I love 43 mm ceramics some people hate them.

Tina sells ceramics (what you would print full custom art work on, like this threads chips) in different sizes and then hybrids (which look similar to a classic poker chip) where you can print a inner label on. The hybids will have different textures/ molding like web or top hops.

You should get a few samples of different chips to see what you like, the Majestics or some BroPro chips will give you a good base. You can find samples of real clay chips at classic poker chips, or im sure there is poeple on this forum that can mail sample of tinas if you pay for shipping (check the group buys threads)

Sure the textured no molds are grippier than the smooth mold but I’ve heard the textured wear down over time anyway. I prefer how the smooth texture feels and looks (texture ruins the glossiness and reduces print resolution). I’d personally take smooth any day. Just don’t play poker on a plane, and get a little bit better at shuffling. I don’t think any of my non chipper plays care that they’re slippery

The smooth might be heavier than the textured too but I’m not sure. My smooth mold feel 0.5-1g heavier than my card mold empire/taj samples at least which are 9.7g according to Hobbyphilic. I like this extra weight

I’ll acknowledge the smooth molds are spinner heaven, but I don’t care, there are other considerations that are more important to me. Spinners are a big deal to others

@pannichine definitely get samples, and once you have them, consider what you want personally in your chips, and with a custom design, what kind of chip works best with the design.

I have to say the texture of the smooth moulds is freaking amazing. It’s so unbelievably satisfying to have a super smooth chip, combined with the yummy colours Tina can print.

Literally zero players at my games give a fuck about spinners, nor do I.

@Cratty I challenge you to make a smooth mold set. V curious to see what you’ll come up with!

With the set I got on smooth mold, it wasn’t the spinners that bothered me, it was that the fact that after a small amount of play, they were as slippery as wet ice. Like dice chips, pushing a stack without some falling over was troublesome.
I wonder if the smooth hybrids are the same?

why not just get ceramics? they have a feel like a river bed rock that's super smooth (my Tina dont have that waffle like other ceramics) and I haven't had any slippery issues

I’ve got a large set of DDLMs ftom BRPro and they’re great. BRPro also has a cross-hatched textured chip that they use on their Nevada Jack skulls chips. BRPro has the best ceramic blanks you can buy today, imo
But the Tina smooth no-mold ceramics were just not for me. Whatever texture they have is very light, and wears quickly.
The smooth chips are similar to the Tina cards mold chips, and I compared those to BRPro chips (and Chipco ceramics) under a microscope a while back. The comparison is here:

That's interesting that you say they wear, I got the 43mm Sublimation Ceramic Poker Chips, my desk stack that I've been shuffling every day for almost 2 moths still are still rock solid. I do have other ceramics that I bought from a German poker shop, that are smooth aswell, but they feel like they have a shellac on them and are slippery after use.

The chips from BRPro hold up extremely well to use, but I noticed the Tina smooth chips weren’t as strong.
Could be a simple matter of different plastic formulas behaving differently.

I noticed the same thing with my web mold chips from tina. Feels super grippy at first but after one game they slide all over the place.

i notice the same with my web mold shuffle stack. the texture that gives a bit of static friction wears through shuffling. super easy to knock over after a while
my smooth molds are currently hard to knock over than my web molds but im sure that'll equalise

Yeah I sold it end of last month. The 100 didn’t contrast with the 1, 100 had poor contrast on the face, purple looks kinda boring in warm lighting, 5 and 0.25 look a bit similar depending on angle. Oh and I’m a chip glutton and want more chips so I can get change less during the game (particularly the 5) and to have larger starting stacks based on rack barrels for faster setup, and I’m a chip glutton and want more chips. Oh also bigger 43mm 20 and 100 chips.

And did I mention I like more chips? I’m gonna get 2000 chips, 1200 for myself split across 2 cases and 800 goes into a side set to sell to the next poker chip victim (also reduces the cost for me by a f tonne).

Oh yeah and to make bigger chip towers too. Did I mention I like these chips?

Oh also regarding the smooth molds, there is one really cool benefit that the hybrids and even the textured no moulds don’t have - a textured edge. IMO the hybrids and texted no moulds have a very plastic key feeling edge (I only have a mixed barrel of 43 mm, so it may be different for 39 mm) . The smooth moulds ironically have a slightly texted edge which makes the edge feel super nice. Even card molds edges feel plastic in comparison. The downside is bright colours don’t shine as much on the edge, but hey you can’t have everything

They’re a must try, at least for a sample set. Worth the slipperiness of the face IMO

Yeah that makes sense. More chips = lower chip price. I made a super personal set with my own f'ing name on it. I can't sell that shit, when I want another set. Anyways - I am looking forward to see your progress with this v2 set! I really liked v1! Good luck!
