Scammed by USPS? (4 Viewers)

And it weighs exactly that

Contact the shipper and resolve.

Doesn’t resolve, chargeback on credit card, file theft with USPIS, let shipper know you’re also going to start the process of filing for mail fraud based on scheme/intent to defraud through postal service.

Timeliness matters in all cases above, so I wouldn’t pussyfoot going back and forth with calls/emails/texts for days before submitting.

There will be jokes, but I’m only aware of credit card charge backs about 10 times, and all 10 I know of were successful. So there’s that.

oof - yeah, that’s seriously F’d up!!

Definitely call your CC and see if they can do anything.
Most major companies have fraud protection that will make their customer whole before the matter is actually resolved.

Barrie's advice above is good. That's how I'd handle it.

I was undecided about whether to post the same thread. Personally, I would read the whole thing, and you can get a sense of Spacemonkey for yourself.

I am sad to say that I'm surprised ... that it took this long for it to happen.
He was extremely difficult to work with when I bought some really nice hot stamped chips off him. He kept saying he would sell them to me, but then he would just shop my offer to other members.

Then a few weeks ago out of the blue he randomly contacted me and offered a really good price on a southern horseshoe Indiana set. He explained that he was trying to sell it because he was getting married and he liked working with me in the past. I picked them up for a friend of mine’s game.

The first time buying from him was very difficult. This time was very smooth and easy. Now I know why.

The packages are full of paper to the very top, and they weigh exactly what they did when they were shipped, so this was definitely a scam.

everyone is an expert in hindsight i guess. where were your warnings in foresight? lol

But why paper? Why ship something at all? This makes no sense at all?

that was my first thought because i thought flat rate labels didn't have the weight, but since they do, it would help create plausible deniability.

but if a box was opened and re-taped, there should be some pretty obvious signs i would think.

im going to play devils advocate here for a minute but if you were stealing a heavy item and the weight was listed on the parcel, wouldn't replacing it with paper be the best thing to replace with?
Boxes don’t appear tampered with. Even if they did he could have created a fake tampered tape job.

They weigh exactly the same w paper as when he shipped them. And it’s full of paper, couldn’t fit more in them lol. No way a USPS employee swapped it out LOL.

This is the risk our forum has. Happy I protected myself with a CC payment.

Both packages weight exactly what they were when he shipped. Total scam job.

This clearly preemptively debunks ANY future assertion by the seller that what happened here is someone at the post office tampered with the package and replaced the chips w/paper. @doublebooyah85 received what exactly was mailed to him . . . paper. There’s no refuting that one no matter what story the seller may tell here.

Icing on the cake he said he would sell me the chips at TCR prices. I said that’s almost too fair and not fair to him. HE reached out to me.

He sold me the the $1s, $5, $25, and $100 at TCR prices. I told him I would pay a premium for the higher denoms $500 and $1k.

And I even told him to auction off the fracs and $5ks and so he would get maximum value. He decided to “keep the fracs” per my suggestion and sell me the high denoms at a great price.

The deal WAS too good to be true. But I’ve texted with Mike before at length. He seemed like a good guy. Odd? Different? Sure but we all are.

question. are you able to post what chips you aggreed to buy and see if anyone here has the exact chips to see if the weights are even remotely close. Maybe that information will add more weight to the evidence of a scam?
Two boxes so who knows how he would have packaged them by racks.

$1a x 500 =$400 ($80 each)
$2.50 x $100 =$250
$5 x 500 =$1000
$25 x 250 =$500
$100 x 200 =$800
$500 x 100 =$400
$1000 x 60 =$600
$5000 x 20 =$450
$25,000 x 20 =$500
