Hi there from Australia! Been wanting to get a set for myself recently so have been buying lots of samples. As you may know the selection here in Australia is very limited.

By ruling out the 14g slugged chips we basically only have ceramics left. I have tried a few ceramics like the "Casino Grade Ceramics", "Value Ceramics" from JacksPoker and a few from pokershop.com.au, but I just can't seem to deal with the really sharp sound of them clicking together. Is this just a property of Ceramic chips that I cannot avoid?

Interestingly, I really like the "Luxury Hybrid Ceramic" (same as Casino Royale Range) chips from JacksPoker. They are the same weight (almost) as the chips used in our Casino (Crown Melbourne), and have a much lower pitched sound which is nice. They claim to be polymer composites but that's all the info there is.

Does anyone have more info about this or ceramic hybrids in general? JacksPoker is at $2.09 AUD (or 1.30 USD) / chip and that's pretty expensive - would love to order it from China potentially for some savings. Also open to ordering from the US.

The Tina hybrid (ceramic chips with a recess for a vinyl label) sound the closest yet to a clay chip. Not as bright sounding as a standard ceramic chip. I recommend samples if you can before purchasing.

Forget them.

China sourced ceramics (Tina) on one of the newer molds will likely outperform (or at least equal) them in quality at less than half price with full customization options.

Sun-Fly would be another excellent option.
I have found this to be true - I've ordered sets from both and been happy with the outcomes.

For samples, it might be best to post a wanted ad in the classified section. You could save some money on shipping if an Australian member is looking to get rid of some of their samples.

Is there an Alibaba link for the vendors of the hybrid ceramics? e.g. Tina or Anita's link - thanks!
I wouldn’t recommend going it alone with Tina/Anita. Dealing with timezone and language barriers, plus many other pitfalls regarding art, etc.
With Justin’s Broken Arrow group buys, he has the Greek mold exclusively (if you want that) and will handle all other aspects. You can even pick from stock designs for chips and use a custom label if you like, or choose one of the many stock labels. Plus, I think it may be less expensive because he is ordering in bulk.

I'm based in Australia tho - isn't Justin's group buy US based?

I would reach out to him, it may be possible to have your shipment sent direct, not sure though.

It is, but you can organise for direct shipping to your address. It's expensive, but it opens a variety of options that don't exist here. Happy to answer questions once your pms open!

I'm in Australia too. I think I'll get a Port Royal set from Jack's, and then in the future try and get in on a Tina group buy for another tourney set and cash set

What a f-ing joke at that price range, one might as well top up some extra and just get excellent condition Paulson Clay or even CPC instead
Can Paulsons (leaded or not) be ordered, or just second-hand market? some classifieds/auctions prices can go north of $10 a chip, likely collectors who wouldn't dare felting their chips. As for CPC, they were rebought and are relocating for several months now, hope they'll be back in business some day. Casino-grade chips cost even more due to security (RFID, serial number, nano-ink, UV or laser markers etc). Is there an easy way to buy real clay chips nowadays, or are there just relics from a golden era?

You can get brand new Paulsons from the below vendors:
https://tigerpalacechips.com/
https://thechipvault.com/

While Paulson doesn't sell to the public, occasionally folks find a way to get sets made (perhaps by pretending to be a legitimate casino when placing the order) and sell to the public. Pricey, but genuine mint condition Paulsons.

Casino-grade plastic chips are available to the public from Matsui and Abbiati, but with large order minimums. If you're interested in those theres a group-buy happening here on PCF for Abbiati.

Your best bet for real clay chips is to cruise the classifieds here on PCF or pay top dollar to Tiger Palace or the Chip Vault. eBay in my experience isn't very good for full sets, but I might be looking in the wrong places.

Based on the original post, it sounds like you're aware of the wildly inconsistent marketing claims made by sellers of poker chips. If you default to "these chips were made by Paulson" you can filter out 99% of the noise, for a price of course.

Thanks @Gus , very informative! Browsing for non-clay casino providers, (like Abbiati, Matsui, Bourgogne et Grasset, Sunfly), we can sadly count out French vendor Bourgogne & Grasset, who did the original Casino Royale chips as well as the classy ACF (Paris) poker plaques. They closed for a weird reason: They were heavily dependant (80-90% invoice) on Macau casinos who bought them luxury plaques (face value up to 25 million), but these casinos dropped the plaques for cheaper chips!

News to me that B&G is no longer producing gaming supplies. Part of Gaming Partners Incorporated (GPI), which was created by reverse-merging Paulson, B&G, and Bud Jones 20+ years ago (later absorbing Gemaco, Dolphin, and Blue Chip Co.) and now owned by Angel Holdings.

So not actually closed in 2020 (only massive lay-offs, according to the article). Two manufacturing locations retained.
