Ok, so I’ve put 132 sessions on my main table, “Big Red”, in the last 26 months at Godfather Club. I wipe the table down weekly but have known for some time that a deeper cleaning was pending.

Awhile back I used a handheld carpet/upholstery cleaner by Bissell and the returns indicated it had extracted some grime. The issue with that unit was the aggressive nature of the brush mechanism. Completely freaked me out. So, back to weekly slight scrub, wipe, blot, and dry. Meh

I decided to search for a product that would provide the cleaning I, and all of you, needed without putting me on tilt with the way it got the job done. PCF member and regular at my game when he’s not, very adequately repping my game abroad, @idoru99 alerted me to this…

Bingo.

After using a spray bottle with a mixture of tap water and Dawn dish soap as a pretreatment, I used a very soft bristle brush that I had dabbed into a container of All laundry detergent. I didn’t use the Bissell detergent that came with the unit because I didn’t know how it would agree with my cloth. Circular scrubbing until there was plenty of suds, I could see the grime rise to the top. We have liftoff! A trigger on the handheld portion of the unit let me apply more tap water directly from the Bissell and the vacuuming began. These are second and third passes after the train wreck sud slurry had been removed.

The remains reservoir shows what came out of the cloth. This is three full passes using the process I outlined above. Gross.

More gross.

Bye bye grossness.

Ima get sick.

So, for under a $100 on Amazon this machine came to the house to be a game changer in keeping the table clean and free of the yucks. I *guess* it could double as something that could be used around the house but I consider it property of the Godfather Club and will depreciate it as such.

ahhhhh the joys of being a man! If only our wives could see how something so simple, yet so bliss can make us happy!

p.s....also I know I'm getting older when a vacuum excites me.....sigh...take my youth...

There are other threads highlighting this method of cleaning the felt. These machines are great. I have had great success with this:

I was going to go with the detergent from Bissell. I mean it’s pretty unlikely that it would harm the fabric given that’s it’s considered safe on any upholstery.

I’m guessing that machine is “suction only” like the one I’m using? Elbow grease and a softer brush was a lot less stress provoking than units that churn and turn and scrub the fabric.

I’ve gone over it a few times with my process. Now I’ll let it fully dry until tomorrow night and then just go over the entire table one last time water only. I want to see the non-detergent returns.

My backer walked into the room earlier and poker some fun and saying she didn’t remember that the table was red…

Backers…

What cloth do you have on your table? Chanman or something else?
It’s the Monaco Speed Cloth from Casino Supply. Very slick and almost “wallpaper-like”. While I like suited speed cloth and use it on the tables I build for resale as it’s inexpensive, I really like this fabric. I had my doubts over the last 30 or so sessions but do realize that because of the nature of the cloth, it is so microfiberish, that this level of cleaning is the trick. I’ll do it monthly moving forward.

I had a guy accidentally get some super glue on it (don’t ask) and have one small area where it got prone to a stiffer brush when I was pre-Bissell.

When I replace I’ll get the same fabric but go black.

They say you never go back.

One final wash tomorrow night just to see what the waste water looks like. This is where we’re at tonight. I’m pleased.

Worst fabris I've ever seen was at an off-strip locals casino in Vegas.

They choose (poorly) white.

Honestly, I’d say off the rack a person goes with traditional suited speed cloth. Cost, durability, color options. I don’t mind the Monaco, especially out the door. 132 sessions though? Suited speed cloth for the aforementioned reasons.

I use 1/4" open cell foam under my cloth and it's perfect. I think it was HD.

My cloth is water-resistant so I've never given a thought to whether the foam absorbs water too much or not. Never had a spill. Don't get it wet ;)

It can get wet believe me. I pre-treat with a spray bottle of Dawn and water. I let it sit a few minutes and then use the sprayer on the machine to add just a wee bit more water. Then the soft bristle brush (soft) to get the funk up into the suds. Then wet vac it out.

YMMV if you’re using regular old speedcloth. Much more fabric-like.

You can see what I’m currently playing on the Casino Supply website. Doubtful if very much if any of the moisture gets to the table pad. Dries in a few hours.

Never got around to the final clear water wash. I’ll say this though, the table looked exactly as it did in this photo after an 11 handed 8 hour session… Not a skid mark or tread mark to be found.

This is important because those previous marks we’d leaving on the fabric when dragging pots etc was dried grime being agitated out of the fiber and to the surface.

Trust me on this. I’m sold.

I purchased the Bissell Little Green Machine yesterday. I tried it out on my poker table cloth and it turned out fantastic. I'm sure it will be useful for my vehicle carpets as well.
