Can you refer to a hand that is not the overall nuts on a board as the "Nut boat/flush/straight"?

My guess***

I think people often say nut flush and nut straight (even if it’s not the nuts) bc the other player could have a flush/straight and it’s just being polite to announce you have the best of that hand.

It’s more uncommon for multiple players to have two pair, two full houses, etc. hence no need to say “nut full house? But they say top?”
Right. I agree its actually polite when people say "nut straight" when there's multiple possible straights on the board.

I assume all this talk came out of flop games. Somebody above pointed out that in some circus games an ace high flush might not be the nut flush - you don't even need to go to circus games; that holds for 5 card draw and stud games as well. So yeah, I assume nobody was ever talking about nut anything when they were playing 5 card draw.

And as far as nut full house? I guess I usually say either "I have the nuts" or "you don't have quads, do you?"

Simple question. If you have the highest straight on a board, and the board makes a flush possible. Can you say you have the "nut straight"?

Similarly, if you have an ace high flush, and the board pairs, can you say you have the "nut flush"?

Vote above. Argue below.
A person can say anything they want at showdown. It doesn't make it true.

That said, when someone declares 'I have the nut flush' when the board is paired I usually think of them as a huge dildo.

Idk. You typing it out makes even more sense to me lol “nut flush”.

It is specifically an adjective to what type of flush. It’s the best flush. It’s not saying “I have the nuts”.

From ChatGPT:

"The I-have-the-nut-flush syndrome: That special moment when someone, with the swagger of a poker god, proclaims they have the 'nut flush' on a paired board. They’re like the guy who brings a feather to a sword fight, convinced it's a katana, only to get sliced to pieces by the full house they never saw coming. It's the perfect mix of arrogance and cluelessness that makes the rest of us feel just a little bit smarter."

It depends on the tone. Saying, "I have a nut flush" on a paired board may be akin to saying, "I only have a nut flush," or "if you have a boat, you're good."

I think of someone that uses ChatGPT as support for a subjective position as a huge dildo.
Technically large language models are just reflecting back the sun total of writing about the subject.

So your comment fits.

You can refer to your hand however you like, nuts or no. Whether it is true or not is the real issue, especially at showdown.

Get your reload ready, in either case.

Reply:

"Nice try, 'Wedge Rock'—or should I say 'Wejrawk,' which sounds like the kind of last name you'd get if your ancestors lost a bet and couldn’t afford to buy a vowel. Calling me a huge dildo? Bold move for someone whose biggest achievement is being a living typo. But hey, if trolling me is the highlight of your day, I’m happy to be your charity case. Just remember, 'Wedge Rock' sounds less like a tough name and more like something Fred Flintstone would cry about as he passed a kidney stone—painful, useless, and something nobody wants to deal with."

Sorry, I didn't realize only you could call people huge dildos.

I concede to your supreme use of ChatGPT.

Feel free to reply if you want. You are back on Ignore.
Dude grow a sense of humor. I was on ignore before? LOL why? Hahaha

Take it outside and please give me my thread back.
Your thread sucked until I made it entertaining. Shall I engage ChatGPT to troll a guy who's last name is 10 letters long and begins with the letters 'G' and 'N'? lol

It's possible for an ace-high flush to not be the nut flush
See hand ranking cards: "flush" vs. "straight flush" Going strictly by these hand rankings in order -- all "flushes" are lower ranked than a full house; all "straight flushes," are not lower than a full house. So I tend to both use, and agree with, the terminology that the "nut flush" is the Ace high flush (i.e. the highest flush that's still ranked lower than a full house).

Yes. Yes. And reading this thread gave me the idea that if I ever get a royal flush after this, I'm going to say "nut royal flush."

But be careful not to get stuck on Holdem and flop games. In other games (like stud, or 5-card draw, or crazy 3-hole card circus games) an AK flush of hearts would beat an AQ flush of spades.)
Otherwise I agree with you.

I wasn't talking about ace-high flush versus a straight flush. In circus games (and as was pointed out, non-flop and draw games), an ace-high flush can be beat by another ace-high flush.

Ha! Brings me back to when I first started playing poker, it was 7-card stud games, some with wildcards, like Follow the Queen, or Midnight Baseball (where 3s and 9s are wild.) It was so long ago, I don't even remember if there were suits tiebreakers, but the group I played with ranked 5-of-a-kind to beat a straight flush, but not a natural straight flush. In those games, the Nut-flush (ace-high flush) was almost never good at showdown.
4. 4-of a kind
3. Straight flush (using wildcards)
2. 5-of a kind
1. natural Straight Flush. (no wildcards)

In stud, if are heads up with KQxxx flush in hearts and your opponent is showing a possible K-high spade flush, if you know the A and Q of spades are dead cards, your K-high flush is effectively the nut flush.

In flop games, with a board of Axxx clubs, anyone with a club has an A high flush, but only the K would make the nut flush.

if you know the A and Q of spades are dead cards
And this is why I love stud on the computer - so much information. But I haven't played very much of it live - it's gotta be harder to catch all the cards that are landing on the other side of the table.
