Did a blind "test" - Copag vs Modiano vs Fournier (also a question) (2 Viewers)

#2 I honestly don't know if Da Vinci's are the same as Modiano's but the Modiano's do have that back. I bought my Modiano's straight from Modiano

There are also a new brand of cards called Guild offered by a new vendor on PCF and they are my new favorite. They just came out and are offered on Amazon. I got 2 setups of the bridge size and absolutely love them. They seem like a mix between the Modiano's and the Fournier's. I will post links in a bit.

#2, what color are your cards? Looks like these are the two options:

What are you looking for? Copag's are by far the thinnest and slipperiest cards which some self dealing groups like. Da Vinci is (according to google searches) made by Modiano and according to different opinions either the exact same or close to the exact same but slightly thinner.

I would argue for Guild, Fournier, Modiano (Da Vinci since they are supposed to be the same).

I don't understand the question. If you are "getting the Fourniers"... why are you listing links to two other brands (Da Vinci and Copag)?

Just get Fourniers. You'll be glad you did.

TY. Im going with the Da Vinci club and the Fourniers. I actually already own the Da Vinci Clubs. They are great, a little too slippery sometimes and the deck goes sliding all over the place if you're not paying attention, but they slide across the table really nicely and feel like good quality. Unfortunately after our July 4th BBQ, my buddy and I decided to play some heads-up at 3am. It's a blur for both of us..... And unfortunately one of the cards went missing, and none of us know WTF happened! I told him to check his sleeves. I've looked everywhere FFS. I only have the one deck so need to replace them and it's made me realize I need a backup (would hate to realize something like this when hosting a 10 player poker night).

TY for the help.

May just be unlucky then - can't see it being hot enough around here to bow cards! Speaking to the vendor, initial reaction is positive.
Grrrr..... the reason for the Modiano PA's not dealing very well has become clear... They're horribly bowed, straight out of the box. I can't imagine it's normal. Hence they "scud" acrosz the cloth when they're dealt and always run the risk of flipping face up.

Although if I turn them face up and deal them, they glide for miles!

Anyway, pretty pissed off with these cards - did I just get a bad batch? None of my Copags, fourniers or Piatniks (or cheap cards) are like this.

Is there nothing I can do to rectify it? Check out the pix, top card face up, others face down etcView attachment 43130 View attachment 43129

Update: the eBay vendor (Squirrelpoker) contacted Modiano and I now have a brand new deck of Modiano PA's free of charge (didn't have to return the faulty set).

The new set are completely flat and deal like a dream. Really happy that both Squirrelpoker and Modiano took what I said seriously and did what they did.

Word.

Aaaaarrrgghhhhh!!

Spoke too soon. As luck would have it, one of the Ace of Spades' corners (bottom left hand side in the photo) isn't rounded properly, so it really stands out in the deck both visually and texturally.

FFS.

Still, at least I've got all my own teeth, and no one died.

I'm just going to take the ace from the first deck. It's bowed, but I've mixed it in with the 2nd deck, shuffled it a bit and I can't spot where it is. So that's good enough.

When I play the next game I'll tell the guys beforehand. If the ace handles differently, deals differently, I'll can the deck. Should be ok though - so in effect I have two decks, only one of which is usable, which is exactly what I paid for. I guess that means it's evened itself out!

I am 100% sure if you send Modiano back the poorly cut Ace that they will send you a replacement. You might be able to get it through Brybelly who seems to run the US facing Modaino cards site.

I'm just going to use the joker instead of the ace, I can't be arsed with the hassle. Suffice it to say I'm amazed (not in a good way) at the quality control with these premium-priced cards. You can see from that photo of the deck that pretty much all the corners have non-uniform rounding.

Awful. I'll just stick with my Piatniks, Fourniers and Copags, all of which feature better/more uniform QC.

If other people love 'em, that's fine.

I will do a full Fournier review soon but my initial impression was kind of meh. However, after getting used to them a bit, they started feeling better. I'll only know fore sure after our next game.

So I broke out my new Fourniers this weekend. When I first opened them to check for any quality issues, card markings etc, I was a little disappointed. Quality control was fine, but they felt very slippery, nearly too plasticky. They were not easy to collect, or shuffle. The case they came in was really a POS (lid hinge was broken). I dont need any fancy packaging or anything, but this case looks like its the cheapest POS they could find. There are also no cut cards etc. The other Da Vinci Club Casino cards I have came in a MUCH nicer case, had cut cards etc. -1000 for the Fourniers.

However, after breaking them in, by the end of the night, I really love these cards. They have more of a paper type texture to them vs the plasticky type feel of the Da Vincis. They glide beautifully. Once you get used to them, shuffling is a breeze. I definitely prefer these cards over the Da Vincis.

So the Davincis are $13 and the Fourniers are $26. Are they 2X as good? Definitely not, but they are nicer cards IMO and I would recommend them if you have your own cut cards and a nicer case.

Thanks for the recommendation guys.

Im changing my mind on the Fourniers. They are no longer "nicer" cards....... These cards are absolutely amazing.

I've broken them in now. They've been handled quite a bit (fatty fingers etc). They have a wonderful paper texture to them yet are 100% plastic with all the benefits of being plastic. I had a 10 man tourney last night. I busted out but as the host, needed to hang around until the end so I ended up shuffling for and hour or two. I've really come to appreciate these cards and highly recommend them. TY for the recommendation.

Anyone try these? $9.

Royals are the cheapest of the cheap in plastic cards, and for good reason........avoid at all costs..... :)
Back when I didn't know better, I bought 5 setups of these, the only thing I use them for now are "seat assignment" cards since Old West Poker Supplies doesn't seem to want to make more of the suited seating chips.... :(

^^^^This.

One of the guys in our league tried these. About halfway through the game, we switched to Copags. Everyone at the game agreed...they were horrible.

What's strange is that the same company (well, same logo on the Ace of Spades) makes the Marion Pro line of plastic cards, and those aren't bad. Completely different feel.Go figure.

my experience is that it is catastrophically awful quality.
5 decks bought me were all with minor defects. in the end, I picked 4 acceptable, and 1 defective.
they are moderately pleasant, but quickly erased the paint.

30 times back and forth.

in the next topic, I made it with card Fournier and I made 700 times...
without serious consequences.
Here is a comparison with Fournier. Fournier is much thicker but softer ...
in defense of the Royal, I have to say that there are two versions of the Royal. Chinese and Japanese. I probably Chinese.

We use brand new decks for every game we play (weekly). I used to buy Da Vinci Club Casino Bridge Size Large Index
https://www.amazon.com/Vinci-Casino-Italian-Plastic-Playing/dp/B0042U99JC

It was the best combination of quality, and price ($11-13/set). Now it seems they are no longer available. Anyone has recommendations for similar quality and priced cards? Plastic, high quality, large index, bridge size :)

I have those same ones. I like them. Copaqs are around the same price. Get jumbo index.

Problem is they are no longer in stock, and I don't see them on Da Vinci's website...I think they have been discontinued

Check out modianocards.com , The large IndexBrige Club are listed in Stock at 12.99/setup, and I am fairly sure the Davincis were just private labled versions of these identical cards ... I've used both, these are also my favorites..
