How much would you spend on a chip set? (2 Viewers)

Wow, you're saying someone out there has a full set as was used in the actual movie? I know the Roman mold is retired now, Adam Savage has the only large set of Rounders Roman Molds i've seen (but still not exactly like the movie)

I have one. Anyone else?

It’s interesting that this thread was created and got three pages of responses about ten minutes before everything went freaking crazy. Good Paulsons have generally doubled in price since January 2020, give or take.
Given that crazy inflation, I wonder if the sort-of consensus answer of “about as much as we get on the table on our biggest night” answer still holds water for people. I’m guessing no.

And to answer the question, I’d say that there’s no actual limit, I just need to know that the chips I’m buying are likely to hold their value (and that I’m paying a reasonable price.)

At the most $2/chip for Paulson

These days, I would spend more on the right rack of chips than I would on a set , unless that special set comes along

I have about 6k in my 1200 cpc set
I have about 6k in my 700 Paulson set
Links in sig, I don’t even know in my ceramics 3 or 4k

This.

Funnily enough I’m horrible at it though, I’m a pretty big net loss for how little I buy.

I always looked at it as just buying into the club. If you put 1$k in, you’re just selling and buying $1k worth of chips over and over. If it’s $20k, then you have $20k to play with buying and selling, but you always have around $20k in a pretty liquid asset.

For my actual number I kind of have a budget or allowance per year for poker, chips, hosting, etc. It’s somewhere between 2-10k but I tend to go over. Luckily I haven’t lost playing poker this year, but was pretty disenchanted with chipping so spent it all on hosting.

I buy sell trade. Never concerned about making a buck. Sometimes I make some and other times I lose. I even give chips away pretty regularly. It’s all a push in the end.

I’m in it because I love chips and many of the people in this community.

I don’t have a set budget. If I have money I buy. If I don’t have money I don’t buy.

$2 per chip average for a set is here I think i would be most comfortable as a take anywhere and play set. I take a sheet of felt incase too tho. I aint playin my paulsons on some wood kitchen table.

Upper limit for me is about $2.50 per with some upward flex for higher denoms. My last CPC set was about $2.25 per chip.

I’ve already spent more than I ever thought I would. 3 racks of 5’s at $325/rack average, a rack of 25’s at $200, 3 racks of $1’s at bargain price of $150 per and quarters that cost way more than a quarter. Plus 5 tournament sets.

Funny thing is I proclaimed myself done a year ago and have spent 5k since.

I seem to have found the sweet spot. My HHR 500 chip cash set ran me about $800

Always willing to go cheaper.

I remember being very angry at myself (retrospectively) for spending $16 a chip for several barrels of Jack Detroit $1000 primaries.

I've never spent that much per chip since. Though I've come relatively close.

Around $20 / each is what I've paid to complete my barrels of Silver Star $25.
I can't see myself pay more for chips in quantity. Even small quantities (about a barrel or two).

“Are these like the Dunes (CCs) we played with a while back?”

“They’re a little more expensive.”

The adults have ingested too much of that TRK lead.
I was just razzing @upNdown - since I don't consider him an authority as his favorite chip is that pea soup looking thing in his avatar ;) (I own some of them also)
quoting non chippers doesn't really prove any point to chippers
hey, I like both chips.. I have a shit ton of awesome leaded and unleaded Paulsons (including the grand casino $1).
Putting one down to try to make the other one look better doesn't really work.

Hey I think TRK's are great. I just think they're slightly less great than what some of you think. They're on par with Paulsons. The only thing separating the two are subjective aesthetics.
