Pittsburgh has joined the cold club. These temps plus 25+ mph winds is an interesting combination. You Canadians and you cold weather are a strange breed.

Think it's appropriate to bump this thread for the day. How's our friends up in New England doing today with this Arctic cold?

Stay safe and warm.

Currently 6 below zero with 15 to 20 mph winds. The forecast is calling for the temperature to drop down to -19 below by early am with 20 mph winds. That is -45 factoring in the wind.

Real feel is a little bitter tonight.

As a city boy, I had always complained about heat waves in the city.

When I served in the Army, living 20 hours out of 24 in natural temperatures, and 13 months out of 18 outside Athens, I realised why Summer, in Greek, is called Kalokairi (nice weather).

Heat can kill the weak, especially if deprived of water.
Cold can insta-kill just everybody.

100lbs artillery shells are a nice bonus to handle, in freezing temperatures.

Projection for tonight's low. Currently the outdoor temperature is -17 degrees below zero. Winds have picked up. 20 mph sustained winds. Gusts are 30 mph or stronger. You can hear the wind whipping and howling from inside the house.

I have been a soldier guard on sentry in -10C with 30mph winds. Our only concern was the well-being of the rifle.
I have slept on the ground, under a tent in -4C, when I was 26.

At the age of 44, in 2013, I slept in my family's village home, at 4C. In famous Pesta, in order to plant trees.

I lit the fireplace, and, by the morning, the room's temperature was 18C, but mine was 39C :)
The 1895 house's humidity had dried up in my lungs.
