I've picked up a few solo chips from PCF. Banning single sales would force me to deal with people I don't know or trust and likely would wind up paying more.

Quite frankly, I think anyone selling an entire page worth of sales should be a vendor, and have their own thread dedicated to them.

OMG, the auctions section right now is BRUTAL. Gotta love these >5 day auctions for common barrels or singles. 4 days without bids, for most!
I guess I have to use the ignore feature, 'cause I just can't handle the spam'ed up feed.
So true!

The rules forbid "interest only" and "not for sale yet" type ads. They also forbid "For Sale" ads that don't list a price ("make me an offer"). I understand the reasons behind these rules.

But as a newish member to the forums and the hobby (who also happens to be sitting on a bunch of singles), it means that running an auction is the only way for me get a fair sense of whether there is a market and how much it is willing to pay. The alternative is to effectively ask my potential buyers how much they would like me to list my chips for.

I don't come with a solution. Just wanted to share some thoughts I've been having, as they seem relevant to the problem being described.
Pretty sure you could list things with a price “or best offer.” I realize that it’s tough to establish a ballpark figure on some obscure singles, but these are you chips, you must have an idea what some (if not most) of them are worth.
I e found that either eBay recent sales or Spinettis fan give me a pretty good indication of value for maybe 75% of the chips I’ve come across .

Oh if we’re gonna bash the guy, I’ll add this - ease up on the marketing. We’re all here for the chips and we know exactly what you’re selling. We don’t need to be sold to, so spare us the stories and the Q&A and the marketing themes.
Post the pictures, sell the chips - that’s all that’s necessary.

Looks like an eBay or Mercari ad cut and past - lol.

Looks fine to me... but a bit confusing as to why there were only 5 on the 1st page originally.

Hey it’s just my style - keep it simple. People can do what they want when they’re selling. I just can’t resist bitching about stuff.
I hear ya, I’m agreeing with you - lol. The last thing I wanna see is eBay style listings on PCF.

But, like you, I tend to yell at clouds to no avail  :ROFLMAO:

Everyone: “nope, can’t stop flippers no-sir-e-Bob”

Also everyone: (eyes melting like they looked inside the Ark of the Covenant after Indy warned them not to) “THE AUCTIONS….MY BRAIN…ITS ON FIRE….MAKE IT STOP…(looks helplessly at Josh Kiefer as he lobs potato’s at me) “MAKE IT GO AWAYYYYY”

It’s all a free….market….system.

Now on your horse and make me some pancakes.

He's very much aware that it's extremely annoying.

It's crazy how he just bumped his auctions with a giant post of links to his 20+ other auctions.

The bump post actually looks really clean and well laid out. It's actually quite pleasing to the eye. Lol.

If someone really wanted the auction item, the thread would have a Watch notification set. Even if it's been pushed back, it's watched.

A nice feature to have is sort by ending earliest like eBay.

are the "singles" people finally spilling into this forum?

that's probably a good thing, but yeah, they need to have their own section for sure.

also i am not sure anyone, including the singles crowd wants to wade through 100s of high starting price auctions on this website format, it does kinda kill the Set Auctions.

@Tommy can we make some space for these cats? find out what they need, because if i remember correctly, the "singles collector" websites are archaic forums, and they are probably coming eventually.

I don’t care much for auctions at all, especially not the ones that run for more than 3 days. There’s no point, just annoying. I also think the whole letting the market figure out the value argument is mostly bullshit. Not necessarily anything wrong with using auctions to get market prices, but no need to try to suger coat it.

Always crack me up when peiple claim to use auctions so "everyone has a chance". How nobel of you! :ROFLMAO:

I agree that there's nothing wrong with trying to get market price, but no need to sugar coar it indeed.
