POLL: Limit the number of active Auctions per user? (SINGLES!) (1 Viewer)

Should there be a limit to the number of active auctions per user?

  • Yes

  • No

  • I don't care

Some common sense guidelines or rules would be  (and appreciated)!

This was the method used at Chiptalk.

Take a look around there sometime. Oh, wait, you cant. Nobody went there anymore because you had to pay for everything, and when things went sideways, everybody - and I mean EVERYBODY bailed.

You want to shut down PCF forever, keep making such terrible and throat-slitting suggestions.
Ummmmmm
I never paid a dime to do anything there
And that’s not why it died there

I would like to see some sorta of bonus for supporting members, non-supporting members have a monthly cap of auctions?
This

I had to turn off PCF notifications at Auction sector once in awhile due to what OP was mentioning

It not actually breaking the rules but still I felt like it should be breaking some

Also maximum 3 days auction too, it get annoying when they last anything more than 3 days too

If that were true, that would be ridiculous. But is it? I honestly don't know.
All I ever do is hit the lightning bolt (or 'New Posts,' depending on whether I'm on my phone or on my PC) and I definitely see vendor ads. I certainly can't confirm that I'm seeing all vender ads. For whatever its worth.
Just what someone told me..... They didnt see my sales.... Never tested the theory but I suppose when someone is running 33 auctions at the same time... I felt odd starting 12 and have since cancelled the ones without bids till he blows his wad.... 30 is a bit many at once I think. another reason i try and stick to my Vendor forum as to not plug the classifieds but there is no Vendor Auction forum so ya have to use what's there. Not sure what it would entail but maybe @Tommy could think about that section "Vendor Auctions" for these instances.

@RivieraDanny I mentioned to you I couldn’t see your vendor posts in the New Posts thread late last year and after a month or two of missing a couple of your sales I wish I had seen, I asked @Tommy about it and he said it was a bug that he fixed. So I do see your vendor posts now (and other vendors’) in the New Posts (lightning bolt) feed.

Thanks for the explanation

Maybe just split up the Auctions section between:

1. Singles
2. Samples
3. Everything else
Seems the best response if a change needs to be made.

In before singles are auctioned in the samples section, vice versa, etc etc

I'm new here, but agree that the auction page looks extremely messy. At some point you just have to say it's spam. I could list 1,000 things at ridiculously high prices and expect none to sell without repercussions as I understand it. And hey, if one sells, it was worth my trouble.

Splitting off singles from samples, and everything else works. But I think also limiting the active auctions to 10 good. And while it would be difficult to implement. If someone posts 10 auctions and none receive a bid, they have a temporary ban on posting more auctions (or at least setting a starting price/reserve).

I think the easiest method is just press ignore

You see how clean my auction page 1 is now

It doesn't really bother me much because I'm not shopping as voraciously these days.

But I have seen a smart option used on other forums where an individual user is limited to say 5 classifieds/auctions per month and if you want to post more then you get vendor status. I think your average user doesn't realistically sell more than a couple time a month at the most.

The rules forbid "interest only" and "not for sale yet" type ads. They also forbid "For Sale" ads that don't list a price ("make me an offer"). I understand the reasons behind these rules.

But as a newish member to the forums and the hobby (who also happens to be sitting on a bunch of singles), it means that running an auction is the only way for me get a fair sense of whether there is a market and how much it is willing to pay. The alternative is to effectively ask my potential buyers how much they would like me to list my chips for.

I don't come with a solution. Just wanted to share some thoughts I've been having, as they seem relevant to the problem being described.

Tuesday morning Ben Book! Yee Be Warned!!

While I know this was originally orchestrated over "singles" listed at auction, I believe this recent bump is in refrence to something else...

What doesn't really make sense to me on the "current" situation is that we have already done a round of these auctions. Others have run auctions for the other chips that were not listed the first time. Is the point of an auction not to establish the market value? Have we not done that at this point? Also keep in mind that Apache has all of the Primary chips listed as singles on his website (other than the $25k I beleieve) his values are higher than original chip room sale prices and should be... but those chips have NOT sold out. Obviously if that is true then we have the "Over Market" and with previous auctions already complete we have the "Bottom market" I'm not grasping what is to be gained by these auctions? Hoping for some crazy bidding war where people pay over the Apache price? I guess that's possible but not a very smart "investment" Again this is mostly in refrence to the primaries.

As the secondaries which are very limited and settling into their forever sets I can understand running another auction round for those. For example I have personally added a few racks to my set and am now very interested and likely willing to "over pay" to finish up my set. I have 340 of the sec $25s... 360 would be perfect for 30 players of 12/12 so therfore I am probably willing to pay stupid money to secure that last barrel rather than buying an entire rack I don't need.

But I still don't see many of these chips going for crazy higher than previous prices. It is definitely an effort to extract every single possible dollar out of the chips... NOT at all how this place used to be but here we are now... no reason to keep on beating that Horse. On flipping, I have flipped chips, paid flipped chip prices and contributed to that which many here are upset about. Infact about to do the same thing again. If I have to pay max value for something I want then unfortunately I have to get market for my chips. Love me, hate me... just the way it is now.

It's been cloudy here... must be really dry in some places cause it sure seems people don't have enough clouds to yell at! Lol

Good luck with your bids folks! To everyone else... good luck figuring out the "ignore function" even if temporary! Haha

It's also egocentric at best and disrespectful at worst to the other people holding auctions. Hijacking the forum with 25 simultaneous auctions and bumping everyone else's down at the same time is just plain selfish. Do a few at a time, when they're done do a few more if you absolutely have to do an auction. For these you could have probably just listed them all in one or two sales threads.

The simplest solution for this case would be for PCF to not allow auctions or sales of any type for single chips. There are other sites much better suited for singles collectors.
