As I was through my chip inventory making space, I realized I have a disproportionately large number of WSOP Paulson Binion’s Horseshoe chips, and I will never use all of them in a game together.

The price on this 1400 chipset set reflects my absolute reluctance to let them go, but in case there is a budding collector of chips who would like to own a piece of history, I thought this might be a good piece in their arsenal.

From @Zmasterben ‘s history of the WSOP and it’s chips:

Chip History

The WSOP introduced their first Paulson chip set in 1987. The 5 through 500 chips use the 8V pattern while the 1k features the quarterpies and the 5k uses the 4TSA18 edgespots. There was also a solid white 1 chip, though it is unclear if it ever saw play.

WSOP History

In 1987 poker legend TJ Cloutier won his first of six bracelets in the 1k Limit Omaha. Johnny Chan was the fourth person to win back-to-back Main Events in 1987 and 1988 outlasting fields of 152 and 167. The 1988 final hand of the WSOP Main Event in which Chan traps Eric Seidel is one of the most famous hands in poker history and is featured in the movie Rounders. 81 year old Johnny Moss won his 9th and final bracelet.

1989 saw Phil Hellmuth winning has first of fifteen bracelets taking the 178 player entered Main Event at only 24 years old defeating two-time defending champion Johnny Chan heads up. Famed poker announcer Mike Sexton won his lone bracelet in the 1.5k Seven Card Split event. In 1990 Amarillo Slim won his fourth and final bracelet and Mansour Matloubi outlasted 193 other entrants to win the Main Event.

This set includes my painstakingly re-created T500 and T5000, as the originals are too rare / scarce to let go, and will remain in my collection.

There are NO splits. This is not a dibs sale. I will sell to whomever I want, and is interested. I’m willing to entertain “best offers” for the set from parties I have done business with in the past. No trades, looking to make space.

Well if you have no profit there is no tax implication

Otherwise see the blockchain
One could assume a $30,000 set of poker chips is not either party’s first (or last) large transaction.
I was always trained that a $10k+ transaction flagged federal review.
But I definitely can't claim training in the crypto space < definitely open to reading more into this thanks!

Unless I win the Lottery, I wouldn't be able to get these.
But...I'm a curious noob...so let me ask a question...or confirm something.

This is 1100 chips that were used in the WSOP from 1987-1990?

And the T500 and T5000 are not played, they are actual clay "copies" of the originals with the newly manufactured labels?

And also...WOW.

Not sure this fix is accurate. The originals were Casablanca $500, were they not?
Yeah they were 500s.
I understood it as "the Casablancas which are relabelled as Binions 500s, are superior to three original".

I know Larry knows his chips. I just thought he forgot a zero.

But I concede that I've misunderstood the comment.

All of the denominations, except the $500 and the $5000, are in fact original and were in play at the WSOP at Binion's. The $500 and $5000 are chips from the same manufacturer (Paulson), with the same mold (Top Hat & Cane i.e. THC), and from the same time period which means the materials to make the chips would largely be the same. The labels on the replacement chips have been changed to match the Binion's.

The 5, 25, 100, and 1K chips were introduced in 1987 and used to some capacity through 2003 when they were replaced by Bud Jones chips in 2004.

These chips are authentic and were actually used in the WSOP and were handled by some of the great players of that era. They are definitely authentic.

The 500 and 5k are Paulson chips relabeled to represent WSOP chips but are not authentic.
