Sooooo... I was watching the World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship on twitch and then I saw this post and started thinking about wrestling and turned off chess to watch Rowdy Roddy Piper wrestling videos on Youtube and PLEASE HELP ME I'M DEVOLVING IN REAL TIME

This is how it gets you! Do I need to PM you things to watch. It's general hospital with fake fighting!

You feigned indignation is getting by me. We all know you LOL’d.
I LOLed hard.

So, about five weeks ago we had one of our players ask to bring someone to add to the group. We don't add a ton of people often, we like a good fit. That's how we keep it close and fun.

We do a try out game, he shows up. Super nice dude. I'm chatting him up and ask "so, what do ya do for fun outside of work"

He just stares at me. And stares......

20 minutes later, he stops the game. "I do nothing. Literally nothing. This is the first thing I've done in 10 years..... What the fuck am I doing?!?"

One question fucking reset his life. It was so odd. But now he plays weekly and has 2 vacations planned with the kids.

It was so genuinely weird.

I could never get into modern wrestling but there is definitely a charm of the 80s and 90s eras of wrestling when you are in the mood. Now in days everything in wrestling is probably so calculated to maximize profits. But in the days of Hogan, Macho Man, and Rowdy it was just a bunch of unhinged lunatics taking wild swings while wearing ridiculous outfits.

I hate modern cringe culture and "so bad it's good" media because it feels so forced, planned, and soulless to me. But I can watch horrible 90s movies and wrestling promos all day because they are so insane and feel so much more sincere in their craziness.

No, that's the thing. Some modern wrestling gets it. Some modern is that horrid 1993 bullcrap reformed and wants you to love it.

Watching a ton of older stuff for my board game has really opened my eyes. It's horridly fantastic!

Are we allowed to talk about how bad Seasons 9 and 10 of Letterkenny were (outside of one great episode) in this thread or is that as off limits as Browns losing memes?

Nah, fair game. I'm not that drunk.
