I saw those threads and it never entered my mind that the deals may have been too good to be true. Whether you are right or wrong, it was a good pick-up @LeLe and I commend you for warning the community. You likely struggled on whether you should make the post.

His account is temp locked now

Zelle and crypto only is a tip off too. But it may just be a good deal. I passed on my back up offer. If you have two sets why not sell them all at once too? That’s another suspicion.

There are so many red flags in those listings, tbh. Glad someone flagged them. Please, if you don’t know the seller from prior dealings, take precautions before sending money. And if the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

At the very least, ask for additional pictures to be sent, with a specific request for the picture (for example, “please send me a picture with one barrel of each denomination, and an ace of spades in front of them”). That way, you can confirm that the person actually has the chips and isn’t using a stolen pic from the site or elsewhere.

And beware new members, or, as in this case, old members who haven’t been active lately.

Always be skeptical, unless you know the seller and trust them.

One more point: please please please use a reputable password manager, strong unique passwords, and two factor authentication for email, social media, banking, PayPal, eBay, etc. It is very easy to add these layers of protection, and will very likely prevent bad things from happening to you if you get hacked.

After talking with some members in PMs, it doesn't look good.

I'm going to add a new rule that photos in the classifieds must be included and must include your username on an index card or a piece of paper. I don't know if that will stop it but hopefully it deters these POS scammers.

This is a great idea and something I’ve seen done on other forums with major classifieds sections. Btw doing username, name of item, and date is best practice I’ve seen.

Also the account did not have 2FA on. I recommend using two factor login. I know it is a pain in the ass and every 30 days you are asked to re-authenticate again on all your devices but it is worth it IMO. Be sure to copy and save the one time use back up codes shown on your screen when you set it up in case you accidently un-install the app or get a new phone. You only get one chance to copy down these back up codes.

Can someone post the link to the iPhone version or another one.

Tommy,

I would also recommend including the date of the listing as well.

Is Username and Date of Listing sufficient? Should name of item(s) be listed too? I don't know if that would be too much for listings that have many items in it.

I think username and date should suffice, especially if it’s in the photo of the items for sale. Listing the items seems like it would be redundant.

Maybe have Username, Date and Buyers Username (intended buyer) infront of the order.

Bolded for emphasis; I was locked out recently after getting a new phone.

@Tommy if I did not save the back up codes, is there something else I can do to avoid being locked out in the future?

If you didn't save them, and can still log in, you can turn 2FA off and back on to get new one time use back codes. Otherwise, I would have verify that its you another way.

Actually, it's really not a pain in the ass and I commend the site for offering 2FA. In fact, I would ask that any members here enable multi-factor authentication on every one of their websites that offers it.

So many people don't know what it is or that it even exists. But it does make it so much harder for someone to get ahold of your account.

@LeLe thank you for saying something because you saw something. I guess in this day and age it's something that we have to do more often.

I’d also require a date on the index card.

Edit: already mentioned above.
