My Journey As A Professional Poker Player (15 Viewers)

We limp on button :td::th::8h::2d:

Multiway to a flop of

:jd::ts::2c:

There's a $20 bet, a raise to $70, we call on the button, SB calls, MP original bettor makes it $400

CO is all-in. We are blocking our full house outs and don't have much in the way of straight outs so we opt to fold

They have 98xx, K9xx, AKQX and the turn is the Q giving them both the straight

We wouldn't have made our full house so dodged that one

We call a raise with :ah::kc::qh::th: from the BB (raiser is best pro in room and UTG+1)

Flop :6s::6h::5c:

We check

Turn :qs:

We both check

River :as:

We check-call his $25 bet and he has

:ad::th::9s::2s:

Played until 8am (so a 12 hr session)

Lost around $200 in the 2/2/5 game

Won around $70 in the 5/5/10 game

The KT97 hand on the Q34J board would've been the one to win as there was over 2k in that pot and I had 17 clean outs to make the nuts since I don't believe there were any flush draws

So

Four 8's
Three 9's
Three 10's
Three Kings
Four Aces

The game regularly had $20 and $40 straddles and players willing to stack off drawing dead

There was also a hand where I folded a gutshot straight flush draw on the turn and would've binked the river

And another hand where I flopped top two on a T92 board but gave it up after the turn was a 7 and the flop bettor continued and got called in two spots

Somehow he wound up winning with two pair 9's and 7's

I can't fold sets, is this a straightforward fold?

I'd opt to run it once here if I'm in Anthony's position. Good odds to call and have a set hold if I'm putting the other players on straight draws and/or two pair or something. Anthony also blocks the low straight with an 8.

It's highly game and villain dependent, but I'd call here and run it once. Twice and Anthony is chopping at best.

Given the action I may be facing top set in this spot (I wasn't in this instance, but I've seen plenty of spots where a fish flops bottom or middle set and gets stacked by top set)

We only have one blocker to the straight on the low end as well. PLO is an extremely nutted game and spots like this can be real money burners. Even when you get it in against a strong wrap and your set is good, you still aren't a massive favorite.

Generally switching it up is frowned upon (although there are players who do it). I always run it twice. Many of my opponents (as you've seen) are prone to getting it in with only a handful of outs. So running it twice means I'm usually not getting scooped, but it protects from the variance for the times they do luck out if you only ran it once.

I've suffered more than my fair share of 1-4 outers in this game. But if I recall correctly at least one of the guys involved in this hand only goes one time anyway.

unless they're real lunatics (which they might be i don't know) id usually rule out bottom set here. to me the raiser would usually be on top two plus OESD at worst, and top set and big wrap. my non-mathematical guess is that it's still a fold, and that doesn't change whether you run it once or twice.

It's also stack size as well as opponent dependant

Smaller stack sizes (either myself or them) mean you can gamble more in these spots as they don't hurt as much when you lose

But as stacks get deeper you have to be far more cautious. Especially against the guys who run once and put it in three ways with a 3-outer gutshot and then get there

That was the guy who donked off his 7k stack by the end of the session. He was even falling asleep at the table and the floor came by to wake him up once lol

Playing some 5/5/10. Game straddled to 20 and looks like good action

On the 10/10/25 list too

Guy just called 125 pre with QQ62 and flopped 345 and got paid
