For older chips aren’t the shavings basically lead dust? Like the paint chips some of us grew up eating in the 70s and 80s. I feel like those materials are potentially a hazmat. I’m intrigued by the plans but wonder what precautions are in order.

One thing I won't do: pulverize them with a mortar and pestle and snort them.
It's not pure lead, I'm not breathing them in or introducing fine particles into the air.
I just take the flakes and spread them into a freshly poured pool of resin, sealing them in.

I'm surprised that at the current level of desperation people haven't tried pulverizing existing chips to press new chips.

Depends on the button. Most will be around $25. It takes me at least 3 hours+ to make 1 button. Figure in materials, and that's where I've landed.
