The Official PCF Do(ugh)nut Thread!!! (1 Viewer)

I just watched this documentary on Hulu—fascinating story and an amazing (albeit a bit flawed) person: The Donut King

Mel-o-Crème donuts, Springfield, Illinois. King of donuts.

Similar to @slisk250 - I despise most large chain donuts. Their donuts are an insult to humanity. Give me a small independent donut shop any day of the week :)

For restaurants, in San Diego, the Great Maple does these maple bacon donuts. I’ll just leave these pics here, no need to say anything else:

Old man hot take: if you have more than two toppings (including glaze or frosting) on your donut, you’re doing it wrong
I love this take and I'll take it a step further - I don't even think frosting belongs on donuts. Glaze and powdered sugar are fine, but save the frosting for cakes.

There's a mom and pop place in my town called Donut King thank makes the best huge, delicious donuts ever.
Dunkin Donuts makes donuts that are so bad, they actually took the word out of their branding. I'm all for a healthy lifestyle, but nobody wants a healthy donut.

Number one thing I miss about moving all the time is the lack of soul. When you grow up somewhere in a "small town"/suburb, it's the little, longstanding places that help build that and build the towns identity.

Ran a book senior year of highschool off our local shop. Made enough each day to buy Qdoba for us all every day after school. Good times.

The original Duck Donuts in Duck, NC.
It’s on the boardwalk overlooking the bay. If you’re ever in the Outer Banks, grab a half-dozen and a cup of coffee and watch the sunset!

Just Good Donuts in Pittsburgh has had me dreaming of their Yinz cream for as long as this thread had been dormant. We bought a dozen to last three of us on a 4 day road trip, and they didn’t even last a day. I’m not sure how many I’d have to buy to last the 435 mile trip back home, but I’d be willing to find out
