Okku's Historical Casino Videos & Random Fun Stuff (6 Viewers)

Here is one of the Jennings $1 token Buckaroo slot machines talked about in the video...and the reason I had to sell a large portion of my chip collection in the past year. But she’s a beauty!

@Okku just discovered your threads last night. Really great videos! I love history and especially old Vegas history. I’d do anything to go back in time and hang out in Vegas during the Rat Pack days!

Thank you very much! Glad you are enjoying them, if I could do anything I would do the exact same thing! Old Vegas was probably so much fun and things were so different.

Subscribed as well! How is it in Vegas these days? Thinking about coming out in March!

Thanks! There's definitely people but not as much as usually that's for sure. It's been nice and semi quiet I guess you could say   I'm sure you'd probably enjoy coming when there isn't a ton of people.

I don't know, some people enjoy coming here because there's tons of people and others are opposite. I'd be the type of person who'd like to come when it's quiet. If I remember right too some casinos are doing some sort of different closing times and days as well.

Have you ever heard of the Club Harlem? The club that was located in Reno? I'm sure many people don't know about it, especially those that are newer to collecting chips and haven't had a chance to explore older clubs and casinos themselves. Today we talk about the Club Harlem, a club that originally opened as a bar and would re-open with a gaming license in what was known as the "skid row" of Reno at the time. It was open from the years of 1948-1986, rough times in the country made unfortunate things happen there and around the area but that didn't stop them. Very known artists performed there and made times glorious when they were there. Now a days the chips and all things from there are highly collectible and worth some good money.

Today's club I was obsessed with trying to find some information about it a few months ago. I let it go and finally decided to give it another go. It was one of the very earlier clubs in Reno if I'm correct and originally opened up as a bar as many of these early clubs/casinos did. They were famous for their smoke shop, a sandwich bar, famous Coca-Cola drinks and also a barber shop! A little bit of a mystery behind the chips though, there are only about 2-4 chips documented or "known" to have been from there but I swear there has to be more since they had just about every game and so many different owners over the years they were open. It's something I want to chase after now haha. Hope you guys enjoy this one and let me know what you think! Have an amazing Monday!

Nice video Oscar! And great information. Love these smaller, lessor known clubs. Below is one of my favorite chips from Reno, there also is a 50c that I will submit to the Chip Guide sooner or later.

If you know anything about Lake Tahoe or Northern Nevada casino history then you have most likely heard of the Cal-Neva Lodge. Originally opening up in 1926 and being the place to be in Lake Tahoe with so many celebrities staying and visiting there. It was even owned by Frank Sinatra at one point during it's peak. The Cal-Neva is a major piece of Nevada casino and Lake Tahoe's history. This was a fun one to research and learn about for sure. Did you know they had underground tunnels to transport booze during prohibition? Those tunnels would later get utilized by Sinatra himself and other celebrities to get from one place to another without getting seen by paparazzi and fans. I hope you enjoy this one and if you know anything that I might have missed share with others!

Well done Oscar! I really enjoyed this one. Sooo much history and intrigue surrounding Cal Neva. Some great chips too!

Today I talk about the River Queen and Holiday Queen casinos that were located in Vegas from 1972 to around 1973/4. They were where the Holiday Casino was and where Harrah's is now. The thing I'm after is trying to find more information about these two places because there really isn't much that you can find other than the River Queen was built by Holiday Inn hotels and then the former owners of the Silver Slipper bought it and turned it into the Holiday Casino. Chips and other things from the River Queen and Holiday Queen are insanely rare to find and very expensive, but what's the story behind the casinos? Let's try to find out together!

Great job on the Cal Neva and the Holiday Queen Oscar!

I have a more than a few Cal Neva Lodge chips and love the stories around that casino from back in the day.

Only have this notched $1 from the Holiday Queen. Yeah strange how there is not a lot of info on those 2 casinos. Did you post on the Chip Board, i think Alex and maybe Pam may be able to help.

Today we talk about the magical duo of Siegfried and Roy. They will be remembered forever. They changed show business and entertainment around the world showing what they were ultimately capable of. Pushing the limits and making each show better than the last. Mixing magic and animals was what they were the best at. Never had a chance to see them live but I'm sure the experience was amazing.

Here's the link, enjoy!

Recently I've seen these Travelodge Casino "Dig Chips" showing up on eBay more often so I decided to take a look at what makes them dig chips and the whole backstory behind them. Pretty surprised at the information that I found and they are a different type of dig chip than let's say the Sands HNO chips or the Pioneer Laughlin chips. Here's the link to today's video, some of you guys might not even know that there was a Travelodge in Carson City or what the story behind them is so enjoy!

Well amazing morning so far here in Vegas. Woke up to snow which was awesome! Haven't seen it in 2 years now I believe or if it has it's been next to the mountains and has only lasted a few hours. Although this snow won't last long either it's already slightly starting to melt but very nice to see.

Hope you guys have been well! We'll get some more casino history tomorrow, it's from another place that many people here on PCF collect racks of and even have mixed sets with them sooooo be on the look out for that! Have a great rest of your day guys!

Today we talk about the Silver Star Casino which was a pretty small place here in Las Vegas, downtown to be exact. Both times it tried opening it didn't even last a full year before it closed down. It had links to Benny Binion and originally opened as a slot-only casino without a gaming license. Many of you guys here on PCF have recently been getting these chips and many already had some. It amazing to see everyone want to build a set of them and even having them in mixed sets is nice to see. Thank you to those who sent me pictures to use as well, they were amazing! Calling all Silver Star owners to watch this video if they don't know the history and thanks to @Spinettis Gaming for having a blog post about this a while back. Otherwise finding any information on this small place was pretty hard. Hope you guys enjoy!

Welcome to February everyone and Black History Month! When I was making this video the other day I didn't even realize that it was going to be uploaded on the 1st. Today we talk about the Moulin Rouge Casino that was here in Vegas opened in 1955 and was open for around 6 months before it closed. It was such an incredible place and broke major boundaries becoming Vegas' 1st interracial casino hotel. The chips and everything from there is very collectible and some of them very expensive. You were able to find all kinds of different celebrities there as well from opening night until the day it closed. Here's the link if you'd like to learn more about a Vegas icon!

The Primadonna in Reno had quite the history behind it. Although it's not something that you may see in quantity these chips are very unique and special. Ernie Primm the owner was also the owner of the Monterey Club and Rainbow Club in Gardena. Many of you have probably heard of these places and have chips from there! Primm took steps and kept fighting for what he wanted until he got it. After years of trying to get his own club in Reno, he finally did. That club was the Primadonna and he would have great success with it.

Here's the link if you'd like to check it out! Thanks for all the support as always you guys rock!
