Does anyone have a name for their poker group? I’m interested to know how punny or awesome your games are! Post below

The omc that hosts a weekly $80 tournament calls all us regs the river rat crew. As people start to trickle in "Oh lord here comes all the river rats, take your suck out seats you bastards." Then he serves us all tea, res ardless if we asked for it or not. The friendliest grumpy old codger there is.

My home is not a normal single family home. It is a duplex with a studio apartment upstairs. As the kids were growing up we just put the oldest kid up there. Now that the kids are grown, the studio apartment became the poker man cave. Everyone that plays started calling it "The Studio". So I had @BR Pro Poker make me semi custom ceramics to go with it.

These chips are the best purchase I have made for The Studio. Even better than the hot dog roller and the nacho cheese dispenser, and that is coming from a fat guy who values his food :)

Just the alliterative "Pltrgyst Poker" since about 1989, when the home game -- and my chipping -- started with these:

I'm still planning to get these made one day:

There are some great ones on here, I will tag and let them share if they so choose! @Cliff , @CraigT78 , @Seeking Alpha Social Club (well... you can probably figure that one out) @k9dr and @Perthmike ... countless others. I think maybe @Himewad might know a few cool poker room names and the creators of those rooms.

Oh and who could forget... one of my favorites! @Eloe2000 please share your poker club name!!

Doesnt @PGA PRO have one too? Or who has the Nick's chips?

Windy Crest Poker (now Online).

Super original, I took the name of my street and slapped Poker Room to it.

Craig man that room looks fantastic brother!! Are those both 84" tables? Guessing you go 9 max per table here? The rails look super comfy too, along with gasser chairs and all of your players should feel like they are at the spa in the 4 seasons man!! Wow

Also any noobs please take not to the dedicated corner of the room with the obligatory hot dog roller! A true thing of beauty!!

Truly hope we can make it down and join you some time brother!!

Also there is a lot of potential not to loose here man!! That losers lounge does not look like the place to be!! More like time out for the kids of the drunk dude that spills a beer on your purdy tables!! The couch again comfy but damn the leg space sucks!! Especially for larger dudes! Is there even a light in there or just "go sit in the dark cramped corner and think about what you did!!" Lmao sorry I had to!

LOL...yeah...tough to figure that one out. But here's a little info on why we are who we are:

Why Seeking Alpha?

The term “Alpha” has multiple definitions, two of which can be used to describe poker players. In general terms, alpha denotes the number one position–the big dog or big Kahuna. This especially applies during tournament playing where players are seeking the top position or “seeking alpha.”

The field of finance uses alpha to describe above average financial returns (as opposed to beta which are average returns). During cash games, players are seeking above average returns; thus, they are “seeking alpha.”

Why a Social Club?

Playing poker with the Seeking Alpha Social Club is not gambling, and it’s much more than just a poker game. If that’s all you’re looking for, then you’re not likely to become a Seeking Alpha Social Club member.

We don’t have the most expensive game in town–as a matter of fact it’s probably one of the smallest games in town–but we do have the best game in town. The Seeking Alpha Social Club is first and foremost an opportunity for wonderful friends and great family to gather and share a passion we all love.

With respect to how punny or awesome the games are, here's a few of pages of our AWESOME peeps (link below). Games are much smaller these days...usually 6 to 14 players. But even 1 table of 6 has been fun.

Kev might be tattoo time, your avatar is epic!! I never really noticed on my phone, but on the PC that is truly epic!! My artist could nail that!! of course he is booked 18 months out and mama might not be a huge fan! LMAO

We used to play in a buddies high rise condo and the game was called Brickell Poker League for that area of the city. I took over hosting at some point and we always played in my backyard so we called it Backyard Poker League to keep the acronym but it is pretty bland for a name. We play all year round (Miami with good weather) under an absolutely monstrous mango tree. The biggest any of us have seen. During fruiting season we used to get about 100-200 mangos per day falling from the tree. They are pretty damn dense and the tree is tall and you can hear them ripping down through the canopy before they strike. The sound strikes fear in the hearts of men. We have a standing prop bet that anyone who catches a head shot is owed a fiver from everyone at the table. So then we started calling my house and the game Casa Mango. Casa Mango has stuck and now our tournament trophy is the golden mango.

This is easily the best backstory for a poker group name. It wins, no one else has a chance.

Also if you ever host a meetup, even a micro. Count Brie and myself In! I would love a chance at the trophy someday.. even if it stays at the Casa... it is a work of art and would love to see my name on that beast!! (For the record I am a terrible card player... so even if it was only the 3 of us... I would still be in third) but I would love a chance!! Haha

I am so sad I didn’t take any great photos of the whole space before the pandemic and before we had to give the tree a massive haircut (it was a hurricane danger). These things grow back quick though.

Don't mean to derail this thread, but I have a quick question about your poker table pictured above. Did you do the build yourself? The reason I'm asking is I recently built a table that is similar, with tight almost 90 degree angles instead of the traditional oval shape. And I had a hell of a time doing the inside of the rail. No matter what I did it would not stretch to cover the inside corner. Is there a secret to getting these corners right?

PM sent to avoid derail of an excellent thread idea.

Oh boy, what a mess. I completely didn’t understand that you absolutely need curve to be able to stretch the vinyl. You can see from the build that the interior corners of the structure had almost no curvature. Our hands were already aching from pulling edge rail vinyl when we got to the corners and then we need to back out and remove staples to do the corners as best we could. In the end what curvature you see in the game photos is somewhat unsupported stretched vinyl. We did as good a job as we could. I am not going to mess with it because at some point I am just going to have a table built for me when I figure out a better storage solution. I really want to design a nice table felt.

Since I'm retired Army and a majority of my regs are either fellow Army retirees, veterans or currently serving on active duty at nearby Fort Leavenworth/Fort Riley and I have some Pacific Island blood running through my veins, named my poker room "The Hale Koa Poker Room."

In Hawaiian, Hale Koa translates to "House of the Warrior." Also borrowed the idea from the actual Hale Koa Hotel on Waikiki Beach, which is exclusive to military members and their families.

The generic entrance sign definitely needs some work, but it will do for now since my Army-themed table is the centerpiece. Will eventually get some custom chips one day.

P.S. To @Seeking Alpha Social Club and @CraigT78: We have the occasional former Navy, Marines, Air Force or Coast Guard folks at games, so you two former Sailors are more than welcome and have a spot to splash some pots if you're ever in the greater KC metro area.

No formal name for the group or any of the multiple venues where we play(-ed, pre-covid), but the various tournament series and leagues we run each have names:
  • ASoP (Atlanta Series of Poker, NLHE)
  • DTS (Dogwood Tournament Series, low-cost NLHE)
  • HORS (alternating NLHE, PLO8, Razz, Stud8)
  • CPT (Circus Poker Tour, mix of Dramaha, Razzaho, Scarney, Scrotum8, Shodugi, Super-Holdem8, and SOHE games, among others)

Thanks!! It's actually a design from a tattoo artist out of Los Angeles (I believe). And mama actually wouldn't mind at all...as long as I let her get another tattoo...LOL!!
