I usually don't wade into these discussions buuut...@Chipton's numbers are from the 2017-2018 season (according to the screenshot) and @Poker Zombie's numbers only show up thru 2016-2017. So the number's aren't necessarily "different numbers coming from the same website". Don't think there's a conspiracy here.

A more valid discussion (IMO) would be the impacts of the explosion of the number of tests and amount of tracking done during COVID vs a "normal" flu season, as well as how COVID hospitalizations/deaths are being counted and/or categorized. I'm not really personally interested in getting into that kind of discussion on an internet forum (as much as I love PCF and - most - of it's denizens), but it's a more valid one to have (IMO YMMV).

Regarding the topic at hand. I kinda wish there was a casino nearby me because I find 6max poker to be much more entertaining than 9max. It's also potentially much more profitable since most folks will be playing with 9max type ranges and will be easier to exploit accordingly. Besides, I don't normally go to a casino environment for the social interaction or table talk. I'll play at home for that.

The next 3 years are available by looking at the page I linked to, and scrolling down. A static screenshot couldn't show everything, but it's there. 2017-2018: 61,000 deaths. 2018-2019: 34,000 deaths. 2019-2020: 22,000 deaths. Nothing close to the 80,000 a year Chipton would have you believe.

All easily verified by the CDC link. Don't trust my link? Good on you. Verify with your own search using CDC.gov. Any other site may just be one of countless scammers, misinformation spreaders, or conspiracy websites. The internet has become a dangerous breeding ground of yellow journalism. The reader has been thrust into the role of a reporter, because there are too many people delivering wrong information, be it to boost ratings, readership, or click-traffic. That's why I provide all the valid proof I can - not just numbers.

Just to let everyone know, I took screenshots of all the CDC information that I provided here, back in June of this year. I was very skeptical about the information that I was receiving back then and wanted to do my own research, and in the last few months I have become aware that the statistics that I have screenshots of are no longer available, and the numbers have been dramatically reduced. A lot of the statistics from earlier in the year have been changed and they are completely different now. That may not be concerning for some of you, but it is for me.
 
If the numbers had changed, one possibility is that they classified things differently, as they gained more information. This does guarantee that there are nefarious things going on, maybe just a clarification to the data.

I always wonder why pneumonia is ignored in this discussion. Looks like transmission is the same. 2,560,000 died worldwide from pneumonia in 2017 with a third of those being children under 5. Covid has killed 1,600,000 this year.

I remember exactly the same thing. 2016 or 2017 was a bad year for the flu and the number was over 80,000 deaths. I was looking for a reference for covid at the time, which was at a similar number.

We must both be crazy and have exactly the same insane visions on our computer monitors.

But mine are not memories, they are actual screenshots from the CDC website from earlier this year.
 
The CDC does not "release" official data for 3 years. The 2018 estimate in 2018 is a fallacy - it is only a best guess. CDC officials do not have exact counts of how many people die from flu each year. Flu is so common that not all flu cases are reported, and flu is not always listed on death certificates. So the CDC uses statistical models, which are periodically revised, to make estimates. Their final estimated are made after 3 years.

So yes, there are revisions. The 2018 number has been revised downward, as the CDC collected more data, especially in back-water areas of the country where a lot of the information is kept on pen and paper, or simply lacks the manpower to forward data. The 2018 number should still not be taken as whole, as there is still more research to be done.

Where we do know the actual numbers (which are still estimates, and is listed as such on the website), the numbers are nowhere close to the numbers from COVID.

I think that was blatantly obvious from the link I posted though. READ WORDS. Don't just gleen a couple of numbers with a cartoony infographic. You're not 5 years old anymore.

No, I dont struggle with short games, its the just the combination of hours of shit cards and paying blinds to throw them away almost every other hand. 6 handed was bad enough, then you get people going out to smoke, bathroom, ??? and suddenly your 4 handed. The times I had playable cards and caught a hand, everyone else was dead, folded out to a single bet. The masks and plexi just made it all worse. Had one 5 minute break in play while 2 guys argued because one was mad and the other thought he was insulting him, all because nobody could understand what the other was saying.

I wish it had been like other times with happy drunks calling away stacks to anyone with 2nd or 3rd pair, LOL

Slight derail, but OP I urge you to reconsider your opinions on 6-max. The blinds are zero-sum, and the game of poker is built around winning them. Study some recommended preflop ranges and you will realize you get a much higher VPIP in 6max, which is just more poker in the same time investment.

6-max (or even 8-max) is the shiny silver lining in the poker covid cloud
