Ultrasonic Chip Cleaning (5 Viewers)

The ingredients are not on the bottle but when I check the website it says:

So here are some pics of before and after using simple green as the cleaner. Also I am using 2.5 liter US from harbor freight.
Filled water up half way, put 5 cap full of simple green concentrate into US, just stirring as cleaning is going. Bad thing is I am doing a cycle of 3 mins. When I did the 1 min 30 sec cycle did not get them as clean. Also using heat but not sure what the temp is as there is no read out for it.
Sorry in advance for the poor lighting. If you look closely the individual chips are pretty clean, as im taking them out of the hot water clean. Just wiping them down real quick with a soft terry cloth and laying on towel to dry.

I'm not particularly worried about colour fade because oiling can cure that. I'm worried about actual surface reaction/damage.
This is what happened when I put a CPC chip in the US.
1st Pic- New
2nd Pic- 90 sec
3rd Pic- 3 min
4th Pic- 4 mins 30 sec

I don't feel too bad about this, then, as I would likely keep my cleaning cycle to 2 minutes for a minority of my ASMs that need cleaning, and 60-90 seconds for the majority. I almost always oil my chips afterward, so that should bring back the colour after cleaning and drying.

You mentioned 5 capfuls of Simple Green All-Purpose. How much volume was that diluted in? Somewhere between 4-8 cups/1-2L?

Interested to know the mixture as well. I will do a test on some horseshu mold Binion Horseshoe's. Probably in a week or so.

The US holds 2.5 liters, when I put the CPC chip in i had 3 to 4 cap fulls of the simple green concentrate with about 1.5 liters of water. When I was cleaning more dirty paulsons I had 5 cap full.
I was actually noticing that the heat was fading the color. I started messing around with no heat and longer cleaning times and the fading wasn't hardly there.

And don't forget i was using a less expensive US, that i bought from Harbor Freight. If you have a better US these mixtures and times may be different as well.

Is it possible to get chips like this back to almost pure white?

I have a small quantity of some pure white chips that I would like to restore. What is the most powerful technique, solutions, chemicals, etc. to restore pure white chips like this?

I have an ultrasonic but have generally found hand cleaning with soapy water and a medium hardness bristle brush to be the most effective at cleaning chips but it isn’t doing the trick on these pure white chips with this kind of dirt.

I am most happy with the results I get with my ultrasonic and sodium metisilicate (fake TSP) solution. However for hand scrubbing a small amount of white chips, I'd recommend Oxi clean and a magic eraser.

I have found that my ultrasonic works well for big grime and gunk but it still seems to me like hand washing has produced better results for me. Especially with this type of dirt. I had been meaning to pick up some Oxy. And honestly these chips are pretty worthless to me so if this doesn’t work I may be willing to get a bit more aggressive or experimental if anyone has any thoughts.

**** PSA **** It’s in the initial post, but want to stress to protect the working surface under the ultrasonic. I used three beach towels but was cleaning a lot of chips so by the end the towels were soaked through and the TSP damaged the granite (Drippings from the salad spinner). Luckily it wasn’t the kitchen. It was only in the man cave so the wife let me live.

Fake TSP did this??? Wow, my POS counters didn't suffer at all.

Yep, fake TSP recommended in this thread and I can confirm I used the recommended 2 tablespoons per 8 cups water concentration. Tried to take a picture of the damage. The light has to be just right to see it, so it isn’t too noticeable.
