Looking to get a less expensive set for a friend and was wondering how the new $1's matched up barrel height wise with the used $5's.
Thanks in advance.

I'd think this would be variable based on the exact wear of the $5s. But from what I've seen with the used $100s and $500s, they are anywhere between 1/4 and 1/2 of a chip height lower.

Edit: here are some images of the 100/500 used next to new (just for extra reference):

I measured the height of 5 barrels of used 5s and the average was 64.97mm. I don’t have new 1s, but other barrels of new Paulsons I have averaged height around 65.75mm. Considering a chip is around 3.2 to 3.25mm in thickness, that’s about 1/4 to 1/3 chip difference.
Interesting to note, I also have HSI used 1s and 25s, and the 5s are worn the most. In fact, I think the barrels of 5s would be even shorter if many of the chips didn’t have a slight warp. These photos are from the same barrel:

I used a 15 minute soak in OxyClean, followed by a light scrub with a nail brush. Pearly white.
Yes was originally considering that but the new $1’s at 60cents and new $25’s at 99cents I think it’s too hard to pass up on the new.

Agreed! I bought my $1s a month ago, and would’ve waited had I known. It’s a great deal
