Windwalker’s Chipping Journey in Pr0n0grAph1C Detail (16 Viewers)

I agree about the 25. Its a cool green, and it works with the set. There doesn't seem to be enough going on with the frac. The jump in edge spots from the frac to the one doesn't make sense too "me". I simply think that it needs more. Fuck it. If we all liked the same thing this would be a boring ass place.
I wasn't looking at them as a set, just as individual chips. I love the simplicity of the frac, and the colors go well together.

Love the new customs Krish!! I would say the $25 is my favorite followed by that Tiger claw $500 then the frac... simple but elegant as a frac should be. Color fits the line up well! I wouldn't change a thing!!

Can anyone tell us who is who in the group photo from last nights game? I know @wonderpuddle, @WhiteMamba1646 and @Windwalker, are th others chippers?

I actually like the lineup a lot, though I'd like to see the frac as a 2v.

Will the set be part of one of your upcoming giveaways?
Thanks, Mike! I’d honestly love to make myself a set like this, but the CPC colors don’t come close at all; and the equivalent shades make the set look too dark.

Maybe it’s just my eye, but this designer would bump the GOTHAM CITY type on a curve just a hair counterclockwise. It looks verrry slightly off-center. (But then this is just a mock-up.)
I agree, but paid very little attention to the inlay. It was just something to have, was more focused on photoshopping the actual chip, and what I wanted in spots etc.

Would you go with Krish's Poker room along with Windwalker's Den? Maybe keep the branding consistent? Cash game 20 instead of 25?
Wasn’t really paying attention to the inlay, since this was an exercise / experiment in chip color and spot progression design.

Chipping Journey Lesson #966:

I’ve been paying a lot more attention to the kinds of spots and base colors I like, and what combinations make me happy, or excited to see / think about. While I have had a massive recent affinity to California colors, I’ve also been attracted to the timeless quality of some of the retro Nevada sets. As part of my learning process, I’ve been experimenting in Photoshop using a technique I learned from @JeepologyOffroad — using the Paulson color sample photos as a base to do some nifty editing work around, and trying to create a progression and set I’m happy with. Here are the initial results. Comments / critiques welcome.

(And no, I have no knowledge of any NAGB activities happening, nor do I have any dealings with the manufacturer, just documenting my adventures / learnings as a chipper.)

Ship it!

I like the fact that the frac isn't a 2v. The 218 is different than the norm and still fits progression wise.

This was my thinking: The lineup already has 2 chips with the “v” denoting higher value. I didn’t want the same spot (even though it’s in another context) denoting the lowest value as well.

I thought there would be cognitive and associative dissonance if I made that spot a 2v. I used the 218 because I wanted it to symbolize the notion of an embryo or emergence, given the denom.

may be completely off, but that was the thinking.

That's so deep I forgot we were talking about poker chips, but it totally makes perfect sense

My only question about the frac, is if there is enough contrast in the spot color. I like the spot choice though.

I think my favorite chip (or one of my favorites), is the $5.
It reminded me of this chip. It has a similar vibe, to me, but WW's spot colors liven it up quite a bit.

Now that I have read these replies, my only complaint is rendered moot.

That complaint was that there is no chip that screams Batman , to me.

Hahaha Mel, even a potato chip would remind you of an NL, you’ve got NL on the brain!

But seriously, you’re right — the chip was inspired by this one, so great eye.

Maybe you have enough pull to get @Tommy to bring back the fantasy chip design tool

I've read about that on the forum, like the CPC tool, yeah? That would be sweet. The only issue with the CPC tool is that while it helps with thinking about an overall set, the output is like an illustration. I originally started with seeing if I could take the output of the CPC tool and Photoshop over it, but it didn't look real. Then, Jeep showed me his awesome Photoshop process with the color sample chips.

What about faux shaped inlays or labels?
Learning from @Gear , many of the base colors I'm using cannot be matched with a CMYK process, so they would not look great on a real chip, IMO. But, could cheat it in the mockups lol.

The only chip that Batman needs is the one on his shoulder. :)

Such a fun night as usual. These chips are just as amazing as the giraffes. My favorite is the $5 and $500 but the whole set is amazing. Thank you again @Windwalker for hosting another awesome game.
How did anyone manage to actually play poker instead of just staring at the chips all night long?

it was like the CPC tool kindve, but you could mock up fantasy Paulson or TRK sets using the tool. Here’s an example of one I mocked up for fun:

Oh! Very cool, exactly like the CPC tool output, but with the Paulson molds! I did a poor-man's version of that by Photoshopping the mold, but didn't turn out all that well. So, went to the color sample set strategy.

A much better strategy, color-wise. Ironic to call it a poor-man's version, when it requires a real color sample set  :ROFLMAO: Plus, the result is much much better.

I wish I could offer you useful feedback! There's not a lot in your mockup that appeals to me... but my tastes are pretty contrarian. I hope as you evolve your mockup you end up with something you really enjoy.

... well, let me say that I really like the color combinations (base color plus spot colors) on the frac, the 1, the 25, the 500, and the 5000. I like the way the bold colors stand out on the white 1, and I like the way that the spot colors blend in (for lack of a better term) with the base color on the 25, 500, and 5000. I don't like bear claw spots in general, but the color choices on the 500 make it work for me anyway because they blend in so well.

That particular shade of green on the 25 would not have been my choice. Maybe it works well with the rest of the set, but it's hard for me to visualize that without actually seeing a bunch of chips stacked and splashed next to each other.

I can't decide if I like the 5 or not. I'm torn. Something about it seems wrong, but it also makes me think "well, maybe it works well when next to the rest of them".

I think the colors on the 100 are amazing but I personally really dislike that spot pattern.

Looking forward to seeing where you go with this set.

---

That Starlite set is simply breathtaking. I fell out of love with Le Noirs a while ago (I decided the edge spots just weren't doing it for me) but as of now I have a new dream set. Seeing the chips all together in real stacks and pots in a real game is sooooooo much more impactful than looking at pictures of single chips in a collector's catalog. Thanks for sharing your photos.
