In moving houses, I went from a poker room to an office space shared with children. At the same time, I recently just received my first birdcage and matsuis from the group buy. I love it.
I'm looking for another 6-10 birdcages as my storage solution for sets, and it just so happens to work perfectly that most of my sets are exactly 1k.

Maybe someone in San Antonio is sitting on a bunch they're not using? I'm your man! If not:

Online Birdcages
I don't care about quality, I'll pick them up from the bottom. The one I have is very nice, but it's just going to sit there. Are the "cheap" ones online that folks talk about the $60 Brybellys?

Groupbuy?
Also, multiple people have mentioned getting Birdcages from whatever company the scrubdonks and aces and everything came from, "Tina".
$35 a pop for 40MM, $65 a pop for 43MM. I'm sure the prices could be lowered if we bought a bunch? Is this a possible route, anyone interested? I'd like these relatively quick so I'd rather not pussyfoot.

I am _ALWAYS_ in for a group buy. However, I don't want poor quality. The last birdcage I got was defective or something and really made me sad. The screws didn't hold. I would like a 43mm cage so that I don't have to wait for a Matsui GB again (and I can move around my 43mm racks and re-use some Matsuis in use now). But I would also do a 39mm cage as well.

Thanks for the tag.

I really like the locking one I got from @ABC Gifts and Awards. Hoping they get more in.

As far as the “cheaper” birdcages...I’ve had a few and prefer those like this one, with the full length divider. I feel that they are stronger, but I don’t know.

That was the defective one :( ... I really wanted to like it, so I'm going to get more when ABC gets more in stock.

The advantage of the skinny divider is that you can invert the top and store the racks inside (and carry it around) while the chips are in use.

So long as nothing is too thin or flexible, I'm good with either one, with maybe a slight preference for the invertable types.

I guess I can move this towards a GB thread instead. We can start gauging order interest and be ready to go once we have feedback on the carriers themselves.

For other folks, the carriers are supposedly stronger than normal ones, per this

That was my first concern. Acrylic sheeting is about 15x stronger than glass, but due to discrepancies/cost cutting in manufacturing, they tend to be less shatter-resistant. 90% of the “acrylic” carriers are actually not true acrylic.

In our prototype of the carrier, we did 2 things to ensure durability: first, we molded the base and handle as one piece, so that there was no way for the base to break off from the weight. Second, we used a form of polycarbonate sheeting for the carrier cover, so it was much more impact resistant than acrylic. It adds a bit of weight, but will be about 5x more durable than real acrylic.
They sent his and we can wait for his feedback, but we don't have to wait for his contact to get this underway as they're already shopping these around to folks.

Pricing was around $60 for 43 mm, $35 for smaller ones. Pretty sure we can get price breaks going since we just ordered 80k chips from them.

I'll contact them directly tomorrow and set up the GB thread.

I have had a 1000 chip Trademark birdcage from Amazon fail on me. The plastic at the meeting point of the base and the vertical broke creating a disaster of chips across my deck and falling through the gaps into the abyss. Fortunately this was back in my pro casino weight 13.5 clay pre-PCF days. I haven't heard of many incidents like mine, but it has really scared me off of a bird cages even though it is my favorite concept for chip storage.

Oh hey, I see my quarter in that birdcage in the OP!

Shipping (and customs?) to the US from China and then repackaging and reshipping from the GB admin to the participants is going to get ugly I would think.

I would potentially be interested in a GB, but Barrie I think you may be better off negotiating a bargain for several just for yourself from an eBay seller or Spinettis, Apache, etc.

Reaching out today to see what that looks like. I agree, and at the very least I'll just pick up my 8-10 from somewhere. If it happens to be this joint, maybe we'll keep a high minimum order and ship direct, idk.

Although polycarbonate is stronger than acrylic, it does scratch easier. So for a display case, not the best material. For the strength though, and still see-through, polycarbonate's a good choice. Just something to consider.
Yes quality! And maybe a vendor that will take my busted-up-cheap-ass-cages in trade

This has happened to me in the past.
One main reason that I prefer the single piece version of the handle and base.
This version is polycarbonate material.

Completely agree. I don't have any that look like that. That's a pretty solid looking design.

Unfortunately, these particular cages may not meet the cheap category, but maybe if they can provide inspiration for design idea?

Did Windwalker's custom cages have a one piece or two piece (screwed) handle/base?

I wonder how easily someone could make cages like that? There are a bunch of very talented people on the forum I wouldn't be surprised if someone had the equipment to bend and fuse that type of polycarbonate material..
