I made alot of money off Bergs off of Dallas Cowboy bets on CT.

His degen side was for sure his strong suit

I'm just tired of this place now. It's a haven for price gouging, flipping and douchebaggery.

I guess I chose a very poor way to make my point, but sometimes I can be an asshole when I'm annoyed lol.

Mike, think about the great GB we did...not long before you can fondle those Proteges and feel all better...

I have lots of thoughts, but I'll try to be succinct as I can.

I'm the furthest things from a business person or economist. I work in medicine. I (try to) help people for a living to get better and back to their lives. But a lot of recent going on's can be explained by a couple of basic economic principles.

1. Supply and demand: This is an easy one. Take the cocaine giraffes. There's a known finite number of these out there. Someone trying to build a playable set out of them is going to have a really hard time doing so unless you were one of the first that got in on them on the bottom floor, got extraordinarily lucky, or flashed a lot of cash to shake loose whatever was left. That's what happens in a capitalistic free market as seen on the classifieds section here, love it or hate it.

2. Inflation: This one is an absolute bitch because it impacts everything. Literally everything. The cost of living has increased but wages have not at a correlating rate. The middle class is shrinking and there's going to be more poor people and rich controlling the poor class because of this. That's not going to change. Imagine now if another round of stimulus checks goes out in the United States. It's going to make the inflation issue even worse. What can be had for 0.19 cents per chip per @DrStrange 's post likely purchased several years ago is at least 5 times the price today.

At the end of the day, we're hobbyists here with tons of disposable cash that we can throw around. We're all fortunate to be here and in this position. One thing the past few months have taught me is that I (incorrectly) presumed the chip market would level off and that we'd see less sales on the classifieds because there won't be as many buyers because of economical circumstances from COVID. Going back to my point, even through a pandemic, the rich stay rich and for the most part have gotten richer, and found that in fact there are plenty of potential buyers (and quite a few new faces here) with tons of cash to throw around for these expensive and/or hard to attain sets. Even if the economy gets worse, I don't think the chip resale market will be impacted in any way. I'm not mad about it or upset by it in any way, but that's just how it is. Be blessed that vendors like @The Chip Exchange , @TheChipRoom , @navels , and @Ethan make some cool finds and make them available to the community to help offset the issues of supply and quell demand a bit.

As far of the state of the forum itself, just be nice to each other folks. I understand that a lot of us have been impacted by the pandemic directly or indirectly one way or another. Just about all of us have, actually. Lots of folks have been at each other's throats lately. I implore you to clear the air. Either via PM or public apology. Whatever. Life's too short to have grudges over the internet on a hobby website with someone you'll probably never encounter in real life.

I hate this argument....

I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm just saying I hate it. I think that's the hard part. Everyone knows how the process works, and how life is, but you don't have to love it when it happens. We saw a set of chips go from a find to 8 times (or whatever the exact figure is, I don't know, I'm just saying) its price in 4 weeks. Yes, supply and demand dictate the price, but it doesn't mean when it happens you can't shake your head.

I get both sides, it's more sad to watch in my mind then frustrating. And I find no guilt in the buyers doing it (I would buy if I could afford, and I would sell if I got some great offer) Its just... Losing some shine... If that makes sense... The last week or so has been odd....

In the end, I still love all you dipshits. Cept the six on my ignore list....

Real talk, I've enjoyed how shitty it's gotten. I know I toot my own horn, but I try and help folks. I'm definitely not someone that networks super well or is part of the cool kids club.

But jeez, since people starting being asshats, I've had people hooking me up and helping me left and right. We got love flowing in and out like the 70s.

@redwine is a fu**ing g. The man orchestrated this whole big thing just so that he could keep himself, other chippers, and me happy.
I have @AllHoosier shipping literally a crap ton of boxes. IDK what constitutes a crap ton, but this meets the criteria.
Effing @Ben8257 and Brie not just collecting and shipping but actively looking.
@JeepologyOffroad hooking it up with stuff I wouldn't otherwise ever have a chance at.
Got someone who won't be named running a purchase group for us via like 10 group PMs and shipments every other week.
I got people throwing free designs at me, offering additional help for free. As in designers.
@ekricket helping to finish a set on the cheap, just because he doesn't want to gouge for pennies or dollars.
@jbriod just saying don't worry about the $. Bro what, not free shipping, just the whole damn thing?
We got free samples going out. We got @Potsie1 losing his damn mind selling everything AND the kitchen sink at some crazy discount.
Got @Davism72 taking the time to answer professional related questions in depth.

We got great peoples round here. But for the rest out there in the free world and market....

I just created the thread for others, lol not for me. A couple new members trying to put me on blast, turning their profiles private, and trying to fuck up shit isn't affecting my day to day. All it's doing is making me double down on helping out my brothers and sisters in arms, just to thank them in turn for everything they're doing for me. But for the rest of this "Free Market" right now.....

I understand where you're coming from, I do. Trust me, I was after some cocaine giraffe dollars for a mixed THC cash set too until the market for them blew up and prices got whacky. The reality for me is that although I've sunk thousands into the hobby since I've started here, I'm far from being able to pick up a boat chip set on a whim or pay more than $5 per chip in any kind of meaningful quantity. I'm ok with that. I've made peace with it. I'm going to scrap the idea of a giraffe mixed set and move onto something else.

If I hadn't gotten into Milling, I think I'd be out of the game by now. I can't play at these stakes, but making shitty Jackpot NV chips in my shop has kept me entertained. But if I did have that, I would be going full @Perthmike right now...

Can we use that as a phrase for a few weeks to give him shit?

Thanks for the shoutout. <3

I'm glad that I can appreciate quality chips without feeling the need to own them (or "borrow" them, as many people do around here). I would love to own an amazing clay chip set, but I'm totally content with what I have.

That said, if dealer buttons were to cause a fuss, I would be in serious trouble.

I've only read this far and I want to say you now have my undivided attention. (Well except for the diversion to write this post.)

State of the Current Union/Chip Buying Advice

Everyone wants to buy.... no one is selling. For every one for sale post I see 20 want to buy. While prices have gone way up the past 5 yrs I have been here, I think that's good for the hobby (most might disagree). It means people are hungry for chips and the hobby will continue to thrive. With the sizes of cash games I see people play, no one should complain about paying $4/chip :) (there are still tons of cheap Paulsons out there)

And damn I love those cocaine giraffe chips.
