Do you have an issue with the current state of chipping here or afar? Perhaps you think it's overblown, and this is just part of the ebb and flow of any pastime, specifically "collecting".

If we HAVE to have discourse/discussion, let's at least keep it in a spot for a week or two to not overtake other threads?

Hard to say during a pandemic. If you look at what I've done/learned compared with use of the chips, it's a 0% rate of reward right now. I would have thought things should have slowed down a bit, but that's not what I've seen.

I certainly think that people spending $4k on a set on Monday and then $2.5k on another set 2 days later hurts the community.

As far as knowledge dissemination goes and ramping newbz (like myself) up on the hobby, it feels pretty strong.

I enjoy the people who communicate and work together to complete projects and those are the folks I like to associate myself with. There are other people who are opportunists of different varieties or misrepresent their intentions and I don’t think there is anything I, or we, can or necessarily should do about that. As long as I understand that difference and know who those people are and how to interact with them then I am not going to complain.

There is a very strong undercurrent of people feeling detached. Many chippers in this last wave of 1-3 year old chippers that are extremely disenfranchised by recent movement of the chipping and sales environment. I'm not one of them, but it's bubbling over in other threads, and I thought it would be good to give them a place to share publicly instead of taking over other threads. If people think it's overblown, they should be able to speak freely against it, respectfully.

I'm in neither camp, but I know that when someone like ME has respected chippers saying, yo, I don't know how to feel about all this and others talking publicly, you can be sure it's at least a small issue.

Just figured it would keep bubbling over. If we provide a thread, either people will say some shit and then the thread will fall away in two weeks and we can all move on, OR noone will want to comment here but at least they have no excuse for posting elsewhere.

An economic catastrophe is coming. maybe not as bad as in 2009/2011, but there will be a number of casinos and cardrooms going under. I foresee a lot of Chip Room sales on the horizon.

On the same line, PCF members are not immune from economic pressure. There will be lower prices on the horizon. Flip side, the buyers will also have other uses for their cash.

I suggest patience would be rewarded. Maybe not this summer, but soon enough.

Maybe we will not see Paulson chips going for a quarter each. But maybe we will. -=- DrStrange

PS This is mostly filled with ultra cheap Paulson chips. $0.19 each if I remember correctly.

I didn't think I was "spamming", but definitely allowed your opinion. I never post something that I specifically think will irritate a huge contingent of the site, but maybe I'm just way off in my perspective.

Sorry that you feel that post is on the border of acceptable. It's a joke at my own expense. I definitely could see that if you think that is borderline acceptable, than probably over 50% of my posts are borderline or across the line. I can't account for the different of our tastes, but still fail to see what that has to do with helping out.

I got ya. I was just modded yesterday. Because of a complaint from a new member. Who was out of line. It's a joke for me, because there's nothing actually done other than capitulating to the squeaky wheel, and I'm never going to respond back to the mod/admin whining or pleading my case. I'm gonna say thanks and let them move on with their day.

So do I think it's an absolute joke and I'm tired of absolutely ridiculous new chippers running their mouth incorrectly while I'm bending over to help other new chippers? Yes. Do I think some of my particular warnings are beyond ridiculous and want to push back? Yes.

So I totally get your point, I can be a bit rocky. But I can mock the site and following the letter of the law but not the spirit and the asshats who abuse reporting, while ALSO respecting our mods. I say it repeatedly, I'm in PM groups with at least 2 of them, and anytime I make a joke or gif at their expense, I also mention it's a joke. I think I'm actually pretty respectful with them in our interactions. I hate being modded without notification about something I'm not wrong on, but hey, it's the internet.

The only two posts you need to read.

I think this market turmoil is the result of a perfect storm of circumstances, including new unique recent chip finds, novel economic circumstance, new interest in the hobby and an upcoming (reportedly large) Chip Room sale.

As far as what to do during a tumultuous time such as this, that is a personal choice.

I don't go out to attack folks, but I also don't suffer fools. I'd say I fulfill much more the role of Jester than Executioner. And as such, if someone mentions a comparison, well Jester's gonna Jest (and I thought Thomas's comparison funny, in a good way)

That being said, I hold back aplenty. A ton. I don't need release through a website (at least not this kind!), so I generally move on. But I don't suffer fools. I'm quite glad I don't have to run across or deal with multiple members in actual life, I fear their tears wouldn't be salty enough for me.
