Gday all,

Im looking to start a home game tourney for me and my mates and am purchasing a 500 chip set (choosing the clay poker chips at a 500 set instead of the plastic at a 1000 set (thoughts?)). I’m looking to run a deep stack game with at max 9 people.

At our locals the chips sizes we have are 25/100/500/1000/5000 starting blinds 25/50. I’ve found a set which I could get all these values and would love to use these ones if possible.

as a beginner to doing my own home game I’m looking for assistance on what my chip breakdown for my purchase should be (equaling up to 500) chips and will it be possible to run the desired game I want to have? With at max 9 (1 table) with a deep stack as we are accustomed to playing for 4 hours at least stretching even further.

thank you so much for your advice

Welcome!

Good news: you can run a 10 player tourney with deep stacks of T20,000 with as few as 320 chips:
T25 x 80
T100 x 80
T500 x 40
T1000 x 80
T5000 x 40

Starting stacks 8/8/4/7/2

You could start with 12/12/5/6/2 and get 400 chips.

^^ This.

120 x T25
120 x T100
50 x T500
75 x T1000
35 x T5000
------------
400 chips. Anything larger (for 10 players) is basically a waste, but if insisting on 500 total chips, get another:
  • 50 x T1000 and 50 x T5000 (supports ten T50K stacks), or
  • 50 x T5000 and 50 x T25000 (supports ten T100K stacks w/re-buys), or
  • 50 x T500, 25 x T1000, and 25 x T5000 (supports T500-base tournaments with 10/10/5 = T40K starting stacks).

Hello and welcome! This video is from a fellow PCFer. I recently watched it, and it seems to have quite a bit of what you’re looking for. If nothing else, it’s information to start with!
^^ Not the perfect starting stack, fwiw. 12/12/5/6/2 is far superior, especially for a single-table set-up. Even if insisting on using only 8x of the smallest two denominations, an 8/8/4/7/2 starting stack is better than 8/8/6/6/2, which contains too many T500s which would be better off as additional T1000s in the stack.

thank you very much for sending this my way - answered a lot of questions I had. I wonder, would you change the blind structure if I’m only playing one table? Or leave it as is because it is a deep stack game

thank you for your reply, I will he getting a 500 chip set so am looking at the options you’ve presented below. I just want to make sure that I have enough chips to clean out the 25s at the time, then 100s then 500s. Could you give any advice on whether I should go with one of these options or go another route? Thank you very much

Not exactly sure what you mean by ^this. Do you mean color-up chips?

If so, then all of the chip set configurations I listed above include the appropriate number of chips needed for color-ups.

Sorry yes that is exactly what I meant

Other ways to fill out the set:
  • Get proportionally more of each denom in case you ever host a larger field.
  • Get bounty chips (you can buy a color you're not using and relabel)
  • Get seating chips, show-em chips, rebuy chips...

Always get extra big chips for re-entries/bigger stacks/cover list chips :).

I like 12/12/5/6 for starting stacks personally, plus 1.5 T1ks and 4-6 T5ks per player for color ups/re entry/deepstack

120/120/50/75/60 is 425 for 10 players, get spares of each as well

For 600 chips you could get a tight 18 player set

8/8/4/7 + 1 T1k and 4 T5k per player for color ups, reentry, spares.

144/144/72/144/72
Round up to 150/150/75/150/75 for 600 chips.
