Hello guys, new member here from Canada. Hope you guys all doing fine and safe. Wanna post some pics of my newly purchased sets to share the joy under our boring quarantine life. It really takes me some effect and time to put all those pieces together since I am located in Canada, as I need to deal with the customs, delivery delays, taxes...etc. But, here it is.

I had decided to go with CPC Rounders for my cash set as this movie is magnificent to me. When I watch the movie for the first time that’s when I start to pay attention to poker chips. For the tourney set, I had did some research and then ended up go with CPC Atlantic club Hot stamped, as I want something different. they are both beautiful sets. (Yes, I am using naked lady Paulson chips as my bounty lol. It really hurts me since when I see some good stuff at classified it is mostly us based and international shipping for 2 barrels is really a pain. So I take the easy way and went with Apache. The naked lady is the only NCV I found.)

the storage i decided to go with Nanuk based on the fact that I i don’t think I will buy a lot sets so I don’t need that much cases (at least for now, who knows), and nanuk is really good on protecting these chips away from moisture and damage.

First I bought the so called travel case, a nanuk 910. It holds 300 chip and a deck of card really well, and it’s super light weighted so I can bring my chips out with it.

for my second, the bigger case, or, the main case that I am keeping at home, I decided to go with Nanuk 930 which has the capacity to hold at least 1800 chips easily if you use regular racks and even more if you use tube boxes. I have 1200 for now so I added two hard form pads at the button of the case A to elevate the chips higher so it fits the cover tighter B to hold them in place so they don’t falls to each other.

The pads I used is cut from a regular puzzle mat that you can purchase everywhere. I did the same for the 910.

As the 930 comes in with two forms so for now I am placing 600 chips at each level. I am planning to get a custom set in the future so eventually I will remove one of the elevation mats and place three layer of racks for 1800 chips, plus the 300 chips capacity at 910. Therefore I still have room for at least 900 chips which I believe is enough fora custom set. (I have to say CPC really benefit from oilling).

That’s it! I am really happy with these purchase even if those chips will probably not in play for a while due to the quarantine. Here is the two cases toghether:

putting these pieces together is really a fun thing to work on. Really appreciate PCF and the members here, super supportive and helpful.

for those who are interested the card deck holder is from a website called playingdecks.com or something like that, it is NOT great, at least for the price. feels a bit cheap on the leather. But it does it’s job.

that’s it guys, looking forward to talk to you guys in the form and thanks for watching. I wish you all stay safe and healthy.

thanks.

Wow. Great collecting and really nice workmanship with fitment in the cases. That 930 is massive and must weigh a ton. My Nanuk 910 with 800 chips two decks of cards, etc. weighs 23 lbs. Love the Nanuk cases.

Exactly, I did not take exact measurement but I will definitely not gonna move around with it. Great work out under quarantine tho :)

Hello and welcome!

I can appreciate your passion for storage..but unless you are storing them outside or in a garage without heating and ventilation, I dont think Nanuk cases are required.

I have 5000 chips stored on my shelf in my poker room in chip racks. I am not worried about moisture or "damage". Not sure how that could happen really.

EDIT : maybe kids.

To each their own. I've owned some of my chips for nearly a year and they are in the same condition as when I received them

I had been transporting my chips to poker nights and found that other cases were just too fragile and/or oddly shaped. Most 500 chip cases are long, narrow and made of thin aluminum with a cheap plastic handle and weak latches. Birdcage carriers are more sturdy and look great when stationary, but scratch very easily - not great for rides in a car unless wrapped in a blanket. Enter the Nanuk 910. You can store it on the floor, throw it in the trunk, whack it against a door jamb then drop it onto a table without any concern about damage to the case or chips. Great value for only $30. (400 chip configuration attached below.)

Exactly, I had thought about the same question for quite a long time before I made my final decision. I have to admit that yes I don't need that level of casing for all these chips, and my decision is more biased just because I like how they looks and feel. However, the other reason behind it is I will potentially travel and move a lot from city to city because of life and work, so it would be easier for me to have a close-end case for these sets. Also I do not have a poker room or any other proper room that I can store or display my chips at this stage. That is also the reason that I am limiting the sets that I potentially will purchase, despite the other fact that I also don't need that much set to play with. (at least for now)

So yes, you are definitely right, no need for that level of protection at all, a casino cage or drawer at home will does the same job. It is just more of a biased decision that I had made based on the fact that I like the designs and it is actually quite an enjoyment for me of just creating it.

Cheers.

Really a nice move that you took out part of the lid! I also so ppl place then vertically if you have a close-end rack so it should be good for even more racks.

I'm sorry my friend, I didn't realize you were transporting. Definitely, 100%, you need these cases for safe Transport. I should have read more carefully.

Did I mention, I have a literacy problem. Haha

Great cases. I have, many times, pondered to get myself some. However, I know without a doubt, I'll not travel with my chips.

One word - earthquake. Definitely something to consider on the western edge of North America . Recent 5.6 in Idaho this week.

For those that store chips in their basement man cave, burst hot water tanks, burst water hoses, or sewer backups are all possible ways for moisture damage to occur.

But displaying chips on shelving (especially your amazing collection) is so damn good looking, it’s probably worth the risk.

Lol, in an earthquake that rocked my house like that, I'm not worried about chips.

With proper documentation and picture diary of chips and PayPal receipts, I'm covered for other issues that may damage them..this has already been confirmed by my insurer.

EDIT : I worry more about theft or fires. These things have happened to me in my life already, and worry me more

RE-EDIT : I am now in the market for a nice sized safe or even a gun safe..this thread did get me thinking about theft and fire. I do need to up the game but not with Nanuks and such. Time for a safe. Not a huge rabbit hole, but going to meet with a purveyor of safes on Monday. Looks like I'll be spending around $600-800 CDN, but the cost-benefit ratio is definitely there...

With collections of your size, go with safes.

Better Safes than sorry...
Very well put Bart..haha!

Infact, it's true. My chips are in broad daylight and visible from the street. Another great member and friend asked about their location in my home and proximity to the road. Typically, I never open the blinds and I'm also of the understanding that too much sunlight ain't good for the chips, but who knows who has seen what. I did a small calculation on the money I've spent on my chips. Shit. My collection ain't even a fraction of what a collection really is like some members here, but it warrants a safe. The safe will take care of fire (to a point) and theft, because the size of a safe I'm considering, it will be tough for a thief to take it away. In 2011, my whole home was robbed in broad daylight.

Bart, you did bring up some good points about the quake, but in a big quake scenario, I'm worried more about other things. However, after considering the other threats, why not get a safe? I've seen a few members here with pics of their chips in gun safes.

I have a safe from these guys

Worth checking out the comparison videos on their site as you shop around

Somehow I don't think it was that small of a calculation... ;)
Wow!!!

I spent the money and it wasn't cheap. I'm sad I won't be able to display my sets...but this thing is badass! There are quite a few chips in there...safe itself weighs 355lbs! Solid Canadian made product!

Here is some...ummmm..safe pr0n..

As well, room for a bit of growth. Could fit another 7 or 8 racks in here...and room for my jewelry etc will slide in on top. Couldn't be happier!

Anchored to concrete floor as well!

Those are Matsui racks my friend! There is a group buy going for them, but it's on hold, but you can still get in, I'm sure!

And yea, I figured, what is the point in waiting to get robbed. I live at the end of a street, poorly lit, and I've been robbed before. Had a house fire before. There is no expecting it. It just comes. So I've learned from my past, and just protect my babies! I love them that much!

Nice set you have. This is one of the post that introduced me to the brand Nanuk as I was looking into Pelican and 5.11 Tactical.

A question regarding the use of the hard foam pads - did you attempt to "pad" the foam underneath the lid by any chance? That is what I did but I may try your since I find that the bottom thin-layer foam is usually decompressed whenever I take out the chips. I worry a fall from my trunk may damage my chip racks along the bottom if that were to happen. Just wanted you two cents before I tried that out.

Thank in advance!

Hey,
Look at your Beautiful cases! Under the lid foam, no, I don’t think it will fit. But I put it under the chips
