My wife, my son and I went with two other Families to the Kartrite Waterpark resort in Monticello New York for President’s Day weekend. If you live in the NY, NJ, CT, Eastern Pa,, Maybe western Ma and have kids I would suggest going there. The place is pretty new and has a few things to do besides the waterpark. Killer Arcade, they show movies and other activities like 80s Nintendo Galaga Tournament. Also before the Summer Starts they are going be opening the largest Legoland in the US in New York and will be under 30 minutes from the casino and waterpark. Anyway when we went to the Kartrite my wife and I saw another friend of ours with their kids who happen to be from NJ too. We didnt know they were going to be there. My buddy Dean is an old poker friend of mine from home games. Anyway I was excited because it would give me a reason to go to Resorts World Casino to play poker. RW is like a 2 minute car ride down the private road. If I went by myself my wife would of still let me go, but given me a little bit of ribbing going by myself. So both my wife and Dean’s wife said go have a good time. We actually went Saturday and Sunday night. I would have to say the Poker room is pretty Nice with like close to 10 tables going on when went there at 10 PM on Sat. night. They have enough TVs, friendly dealers, and they give you Red Bull’s for free(most waitresses will pop the tab on it so cheapos don’t take them home). Most Casinos don’t offer Red Bull’s or charge you for them. They had a high hand going on until 2 AM on Sunday and 11 or so on Sat. There was good action at the tables. The poker room has its own cashier booth too which is nice. Unfortunately I broke even on Sat and lost $300 on Sunday night. Their chips $1 and$5 are below.

The big hand I lost I had spade and club Pocket Aces. I raised to $20 preflop. Everyone folds the last guy calls. I’m thinking he has a pocket pair. Kings, Queens, and maybe Jacks. The flop comes like 2 7 9 or some crappy cards like that. I bet $50 he takes a few and calls. Then the turn comes and it is like a 4 which is dealt now. No flush draws or pairs on the board so I say all in for $130 and and he is taking minutes and says I know you have Aces, but ill call just in case. He then Flips over two Kings. I’m happy. Then the dealer decides to deal him the third King on the River. I would take that call 100% of the time, but sometimes that is my luck more often than not.

Enough of my whining story. I just wanted to check who has been to the Kartrite and Resorts World and what did you think of Resorts World? Their chips look ok to me and not anything special. It’s actually not much further to here than to AC for me and it maybe another poker option.

I also forgot to mention we went skiing At Holiday Mountain. It is about 7 minutes away. Good mountain for a Family with kids. Would not be that great for serious skiers looking for a challenging mountain.

Nice write up. I actually hadn't even heard of this place before and am currently looking for locations on family outings. Definitely a lot more interesting with some poker right around the corner!

Nice that they have the water park, arcade, casino close, skiing close, anything else?

Hi @TheAlchemist this is a great place for family outings and great if you go with Multiple families. I don't know of anything else that would be a good activity to do nearby as I am not familiar with the area and we figured Waterpark and Skiing would take up enough time. I would suggest not eating at the Kartrite. They do have a few options at the Kartrite. Not that the food is bad, but just that it is more expensive. We went to a very good Diner which was the Monticello Diner. The biggest compliment I could give it is it's a diner I would expect to find in New Jersey. And we also went to an Italian place which was great called Colloseo. There are a bunch of places to eat within a short drive of the Kartrite. The Ski Resort I think turns into an outdoor activity park with Go Carts and other things during the Spring and Summer.

I saw this on the Kartrite TV Channel at the hotel and was interested in this https://www.monticellomotorclub.com/ . That was until I found out that basic membership was $65,000 and a yearly $6500 membership fee a year after that. A country club for cars instead of Golf.

Good Luck on your vacation planning,
Mike

@TheAlchemist I forgot to mention if your Wife or you like shopping The Woodbury Commons Premium Outlets is about 40 minutes away. It is a pretty large Shopping Outlet. Probably one of the largest outlets in the Northeast if not the country.

We were coming from Jersey so we passed the outlets on the way and back to home.

Awesome, thanks for the additional info. I have family up in CT and RI so am very familiar with a lot of the drive up that way. My siblings and I are actually looking for Xmas this year already and were thinking skiing somewhere might be good. There are 20 of us all together with kids from 1-11 so it's tough to find something to please everyone that is not $10k each.

I actually used to know someone who used to coach at that car club. Boy would that be fun to compete on lap times with my siblings in a Ferrari or something but alas $65k for the year is a touch over my fun budget and I'm reasonably confident I could save the Pope's life and Santa still wouldn't bring it either.

The 65k is a one time fee to become a member. Then the $6500 yearly member fee. Santa unfortunately has never given me that nice of a present. Did your friend ever get you track time?

Thanks for the helpful post! Good read. Me and my friends are actually going up for a little weekend getaway for my bday at an airbnb about 30 mins from Resort World Casino. So we plan on going there one of the nights and getting some gambling in. It will be my first casino outside of AC as i’ve been to the tropicana and borgata. Can’t wait to get my hands on some chips and hope i run good!

@baldwinning enjoy your birthday. The Casino itself seems pretty nice. I was surprised how many people told me they were from Jersey and said they lived in Morris County or somewhere in North Jersey and this was the closest casino for them.

I am in Northern Bergen County and yes it is the closest option. From Morris county the sands (just renamed windcreek) in bethlehem PA is likely closer.

For me RW is about 10 to 15 min closer and a much nicer ride then Bethlehem ...

They change or changing chips with the rename....? I've got a buddy who lives in Bethlehem.

The Casino was already re-branded late last year. The Chips were changed shortly after the rename, but they were not changed right away after the sale. The old chips I was told were going to be destroyed and in PA just like NJ they have a rule that Chips have to be destroyed when a Casino Closes or is renamed. Customers have 1 year in PA to cash in old chips.

They already did a while back, kept a rack and sold a rack. Nothing too special, the PAD chip was for spot color compare.

Thanks both.

Feel like white chips at $1 in a casino is just never a good idea. So much grime.

I asked RWC about the reopening, and they said they are sitting a max of 7 to a table, and have plexiglass shields up. Quite honestly, even though I am very cautious about COVID, I don’t think those make much of a difference. The circulation of air throughout the room means that if someone is positive, there is going to be the potential for infection. Anyway, I am vaccinated, and would still wear a K95 mask. So the plexi would just be an annoyance that adds no real added protection to me or other players.

Was thinking of checking out this poker room on Friday. I usually play Borgata but this is actually an hour closer for me which makes a big difference during those early am drives back home.

I have not been to AC in 15 yrs between Wind Creek (former PA Sands) and now Resorts World Catskills, at least an hour closer and with shore traffic can be a lot worse to AC.

I was at Resorts World Catskills this past weekend and all the chips are extremely faded.
However they cleaned them, they did a poor job and ruined all the colors. I would guess many casino's have done the same since they never really cleaned chips before. Was sad to see. I should have taken pictures but was so happy to sit at a table for first time since pandemic that I dropped the ball on that.

Went up for the Hot seat promo which was good. But here are some examples of "clean" chips. Makes me sad.

Jesus, that’s hideous. Found this (not so great) pic of the 25s pre-cleaning in another thread...

I don’t see how they can not replace those; the color variation post-cleaning looks pretty extreme.

Did a similar thing happen with the other denoms?

Whites look ok as they usually do when bleached. The reds looked off a little but getting better as handled from natural oils i guess. I'm not a good enough player to get to handle high denoms :confused so not sure after that. But all in all the greens are completely ruined. No amount of oil will fix those.
