Curious chips... Found some $1 Royal River, Flandreau South Dakota. The chips are very hard to read as they appear to be multiply struck. Also, the starburst symbol also appears on some Artichoke Joe chips which are also multiply struck. One appears to be struck well off-center (not sure if this is a common error). Does any of my new PCF friends know these chips well and can help explain things? Is this possibly an anti-counterfeit effort?

Thanks,
FlushMD (Dr. Flush)

I believe that was how some ceramics were cancelled. I've also seen these (specifically the Artichoke's) were offered as manufacturer samples.

Some singles collectors with more knowledge of ceramics might know more and chime in.

I would guess those are cancelled too. Ceramics take such a good hot stamp.

Wow, thanks. Now I understand. The stamp cancels the chip so it will be easily recognized if customers try to use them. I always wondered how casinos transitioned to new chips. Are uncanceled but obsolete chips worth more generally?
