My Man Cave Remodel (3 Viewers)

Got the bathroom vanity light installed today and put the storage cabinet in the cubby next to the shower. Still waiting for the mirror to come in. We also temporarily installed the pedestal sink. We have to take it back off to do the plumbing but wanted to add the blocking in the wall and install the lags.

Couple of pics...

And the carpet strips came in today too. Will be installing them over the next few days.

Had to remove all the nails from the strips. What a PITA. I'm all prepped to start gluing them down.

Worth every penny, I'm sure

By the time you are done, you'll have a "lair" on par with Dr. Evil and numerous James Bond villains.

Ha! :) If my Dad and I didn't do the work ourselves it probably would of cost around $30k. On the flip side of that, it took us just over a year working 2 days a week vs about 5 weeks if I paid a crew to come in and do it. In the end I am very happy how it turned out. More equity in the house too.

Started gluing the carpet strips this morning. Keeping them off the baseboard about 5/16 in. which was recommend by the company who will be installing the carpet. Using some staples to hold them in place until the glue dries.

The custom blinds came in. I put one up to see how they will look. I'm not liking the box end brackets that came with them. I may get different ones that have a more finished look.

Carpet is getting installed on Monday!

Bathroom mirror came yesterday. I didn't know I would have to put it together. :D

Well I'm all prepped for the carpet install on Monday.

All the tackless is glued down.
Went over the entire floor with a scrapper to get any crap off of it. (joint compound, paint drips, excess glue, etc)
Vacuumed and mopped the floor.
Removed all the doors.

The carpet installers are going to see this when they go down the basement...

:) I have 4 of them and these two have marks on them already. Using them to protect the floor.

No carpet yesterday. The installers had problems seaming the berber carpet. Inexperienced IMO. The first seem was only half done when the installer knew I would not like it. I planted the seed early. When they arrived, I gave the two guys a walk through, showed them where bathroom was and offered them some bottled water. The installer did not like the carpet layout he was given and wanted to run the carpet the other way. I told him that he is the pro and as long as I do not see the seams, I do not care how he runs the carpet. (as along as its all running in the same direction) About 2 hrs into the job, he calls me downstairs and asked me if that seam was OK. I said no way! The pattern wasn't matching at all.

On top of that, they were cutting the carpet directly in top of the padding and sliced it all up. All the padding is getting replace now too. Here are a couple of pics.

All the padding is getting ripped out and replaced but here are a few pics with the red padding down. The white subfloor made the room look bigger IMO.
They were suppose to use double sided tape to attach the padding to the subfloor. They didn't! They can't staple it unless they use staples 5/16" or smaller or it will go through the TyRoc subfloor so they opted to tape it down which is what they would do if they were going directly on the slab anyway. They knew this a week before they came that they were tapping it down.

This is a scrap piece of the carpet that will eventually be installed. I asked the installing company to send out installers that can seam berber carpet. LOL

The funny thing is that I kind of like the red. Must be a Terrible's thing. LOL :)

Not much to report. 2nd try for the carpet install is scheduled for Monday. Fingers crossed that they can actually get it installed correctly. We did get the matching back splash installed. Have to touch up the walls, caulk the top of it and where it meets the counter and install the GFI.

Some pics from this weekend. I have a lot of things to hook up and put in its permanent place. XBox and Cable box were hooked up temporarily to test out the TV after it was mounted. I was missing one power pack for the power recliners. The furniture store is having one shipping to me from the manufacturer's warehouse in PA. Other than that, everything went well.

This concludes my remodel thread. Thanks for following it and for all the helpful suggestions along the way.

Thanks. Not sure ATM, but probably towards the end of the year or after the holidays. The next few months are going to be very busy for me. You're definitely invited though!

Just a little update...The berber carpet we got is getting replaced next week. We found some areas where the installer cut on top of the carpet damaging it. The loops are cut causing the carpet to fray.

The good news is that we chose a texture style carpet that comes in a 15 ft width. Now there will only be 1 seam instead of 4.

Here is a sample of the new carpet on top of the berber.

Carpet guys just finished. Came out very nice. The one seam is pretty much invisible.

Added a 2TB NAS. :)

Funny guy! I'm going to try and setup a game soon. I have a lot going on right now, so it will probably be early next year. You're definitively invited.

Wires! Reconnecting the equipment.

You sure had some trouble with the carpet installation lol. Glad it worked out in the end. I think I like the new carpet better anyways :).
