While I like Phantom and Bond, I have a great passion for Australia's military history, particulalry our involvement in the Great War (aka World War 1). The Australian Imperial Force was entirely volunteer and from a population of less than 4 million, over 400,000 enlisted. 60,000 never saw their home shores again. As many died from wounds upon their sad return. Amongst them were 11 of my family. My Great-grandfather, his two brothers and their eight cousins. I am writing a book about them and hope to have the mansucript done by the end of the year.
While I enjoy Blades and Casino Royale, I have wanted to do a more personalised set and recently came up with this. One day, when I am a famous author, I will get them made . Or, I could sell the other sets ... Anyway, still in development (I am always designing/procrastinating). This version 1.0 and could take some time to evolve.
I wanted solids to keep it simple and represent the colours shared by Australia, Great Britain and France. I wanted an aged 1" inlay with distressed fonts. The background is actually my Great-grandfather's enlistment paper, so it has personal meaning. 'A' mold for sure. The 'Rising Sun' badge was affixed to uniforms and slouch hats and was worn with pride. The denom represents the blood shed in the fight to defeat tyranny and assist in liberating France and Belgium.
Everyone just loved and respected the 'Staff'. They always stood behind the men at the front - about 35 miles behind. However, they were the 'dealers' of death and destruction. 60mm calibre DB.
The Somme battliefield in 1916 was a butcher's shop, and the Australian soldiers, also known as 'ANZACS' (Australia New Zealand Army Corps), earned their fighting reputation in the mud and blood of northern France. Many of my 11 boys fought on the Somme at one time or another, and joined the 'club' as such.
@Mr Tree did a fantastic tribute to his Dad with the 'Paymaster' set, and this is along those lines. Any comments, at any time would be welcome.
