Can't really call these Charity chips anymore as they were movie props form "the House"

Can't really call them prop chips if they weren't specifically used in the film, either.

Only one thing is certain -- they aren't casino chips. :)

I’d gleefully agree with you, but then you’d say my Golden Eagle $5’s aren’t casino chips either, and then I’d have to kick a wall.

Well there was a ton of chips on the craps table in the movie, I can't imagine they made lots more than that, but I guess you can't say for sure.

There were tons of chips on several different types of gaming tables at the charity event.

Well, not literally tons, but I get your meaning. (y)

So, there was a charity event as well with the same chips? I thought that was what was assumed until the movie came out? I missed the exact story

From what I’ve been able to piece together, sometime last year, these chips showed up on eBay. Nobody could figure out what they were exactly. It was finally determined and confirmed that these chips were produced exclusively for a big fancy celebrity charity night. And then they showed up in “The House” movie this year.
So my assumptions are that after the charity gala, some movie prop department got them for the movie, and then they ended up on eBay.

I don't know about that. If you saw the movie, the group goes to Vegas and stays and plays at the Wynn. It is a major part of the storyline and does not seem as an afterthought. I am sure the Wynn paid to have promotion in the movie. Seems to me the chips would have been produced for the movie?

So maybe the Wynn held on to the chips after the charity event and gave them directly to the movie after that?
I dunno.
I know these chips were used in the charity event.
I know these chips were used in the movie.
I assume they were the same batch of chips for both.
It might help to know the date of the charity event. I know the movie started filming in 9/15. And I don’t know when they showed up on eBay.

Does it really matter? Either way they're meh, although some folks really love them.

If you're interested, search the threads here on PCF for "Wynn" "Charity" etc.

I remember and read the posts then the chips came out. If I recall correctly, someone here on PCF found some photos on a website somewhere with photos of a fundraising gala -- the kind of event that had 'gaming' with non-real money, but real chips/tables/dealers, etc. - (I think it might have been in New York, but I might be way off base), and in some of those photos, the gaming tables in the background had the Wynn chips on them. I think someone later took photos of cardboard boxes from PGI that the chips came in from the order.

So I guess the questions are: who ordered the chips (the Wynn themselves probably had to for their logo to be on it), and was it for the Gala, the movie production, or both, or maybe one use came first, and since they had chips left over, they found a second use for them (the gala or the movie prop).

Photos of the same chips at a 2006 Wynn charity event are here: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/thre...like-im-a-4-year-old.13526/page-5#post-225068

Manufacturer's (Paulson) shipment box dated 2006: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/thre...lay-day-casino-chips.10092/page-3#post-167736

Movie filmed in 2015.
Wow, I had no idea that charity event was 2006. I had assumed it was within the past few years.
So were these chips used once, mothballed for almost a decade, then used for the film, then sold off?

The photos are really all I can speak to with respect to provenance.

There are others here (and their posts might be found in some of those threads I linked to), who claim the chips were also used as "training chips" for a number of years for new dealers, etc., at the Wynn casino. I don't think there are any first hand witnesses to that account, but some of the first secondary-market buyers of these sets were told by the seller that "they were used as training chips at the Wynn," or something along those lines. Whether or not that is true is anybody's guess.

Maybe those folks will chime in here.

Although at this point I think it is certain that they were never put into live action at any Wynn property - ever.
