Sitting Out
For an extra $500k (or whatever the deal was) they could get their own bracelet made for 1.5th place. Glad to see they got the money at least.
Outside influence can / has always be a problem.Yeah but WPT is another business entity, they might be incentivized to actually disrupt WSOP to an extent.
DraftKings or any other company could run proxy bets/ promos etc based on your WSOP finish - not sure the legality around ‘match fixing’ in poker vs other sports.
It gets complicated fast in how you regulate, what if a third party has bought action from most of the final table and that may influence the outcome based on their horse? I think that’s why they have the generic and consciously ambiguous ‘spirit of the game’ so they are free to interpret it how they want.
It's like professional baseball. If a team agrees to throw the World Series, nobody should care. Nobody is getting hurt, so why penalize these guys more than necessary.Nobody was hurt, so why penalize these guys more than necessary.
it feels different to me because tournament chops are legal in most places, but I get it, some people think cheating is cheating. It's like professional baseball. If a team agrees to throw the World Series, nobody should care. Nobody is getting hurt, so why penalize these guys more than necessary.
I don’t get why such a ban wouldn’t be part of the public update. I guess we’ll find out sometime?Rumor mill saying they both got "lifetime bans" as well.

Not going to deny - players would be far more hesitant in the future to break a rule (even if questionable) if it was enforced with a ban.Rumor mill saying they both got "lifetime bans" as well.

I guess the real question is, when was the deal struck? At 3 or 4 players, you can nit it up like nobody's business because you have a deal with the chip leader.
It would be near impossible to prove with a deeper field or to prove illegal nittiness, but there would be actual victims.
lol, gamblers will honor any debt except with the house. They’ll take any chance they get to screw the house over.It is exactly as I said on day 1 of the scandal:
30+ years in the board gaming industry, hosting tournaments and conventions. Smart players will see the angles and take them. You must foresee and block those angles. I fault the WPT, but the WSOP should have seen this and also spelled out some ground rules.
The WSOP needs Zombies.
Says Shoeless Zombie. It's like professional baseball. If a team agrees to throw the World Series, nobody should care. Nobody is getting hurt, so why penalize these guys more than necessary.

If this was two players conspiring to eliminate the third player and split the prize money we’d be up in pitchforks. But since it was the house that got screwed, oh well.
I bet they lift the lifetime ban they are just placating to the Twitter mob right now.
