So I have a base casino tourney set that I am building, and don't want to pay $8 plus for
500 and up denoms. I know there has been some discussion recently about having too many T500s on the table and some complaints about using too many plaques as well. Obviously using more T500 is easier on my wallet too, so vote for your favorite option

A)
T25 x 12
T100 x 12
T500 x 9 (oversized hybrid)
T1000 x 4 (plaque)
T5000 x 1 (plaque...bigger?)

Or

B)
T25 x 12
T100 x 100
T500 x 5 (oversized hybrid)
T1000 x 6 (plaque)
T5000 x 1 (plaque...bigger)

If you think the 5K plaque should be bigger than the 1k then those are options C and D

C)
Keep 1K and 5K the same size.....easier for storage

Or

D)

Make the 5K bigger

I'd go with option E):

T25 x 12
T100 x 12
T500 x 5 (oversized hybrid)
T1000 x 6 (oversized hybrid)
T5000 x 1 (plaque)

I think it's the most easily-managed combination, and probably the cheapest option as well. It also gives the high-denomination plaques an air of uniqueness/superiority.

In general, I'm not a fan of using four different material types or sizes in a single set...... so having a combination of standard chips, oversize chips, and two sizes of plaques would definitely not be my preference.

Well Dave, to be honest that thought has never crossed my mind. When I initially started the journey for this set the Sun Fly Hybrids didn't exist and I was going to go with GOCC for the oversize T500s and OWPS for the plaques. That would be much cheaper than all those plaques.

In my mind this has always been my "plaque" tourney set, now I'm torn. My goals for this set is to cover a STT of T15K or larger deep stack, or up to a 30 player MTT T10K tourney.

Do you think all of the T1000 plaques would get "in the way" of the game, especially in the MTT setting. Even if I only did 5K plaques I guess I would have 50-60 on the table in those bigger games at the end.

Thanks

With a 30 player tourney, Dave's suggestion makes even more sense.... at the final table, you will have colored up the 25 & hundo's...so 2 (oversized) chips & 1 plaque left. Those 5K plaques will only move with big pots and AI's...the chips will be the workhorse in this stage. Using plaques as workhorse can be time consuming during bets & pot/stack counts... imho

Yes, I'd advise against making a workhorse chip (T1000, in this case) a plaque, as it will quickly become pretty cumbersome.

But having just T1000 chips and T5000 plaques in play at tournament end works very well. I have several tourney sets with such configurations (along with a T25K plaque option, as well -- which are same-size as the T5000s, btw).

In my mind this has always been my "plaque" tourney set,
And no reason it can't still be, sorta. Plenty of opportunity to later increase the number of T5000, T25K, and T100K plaques and play T500-base events with T150K up to T300K starting stacks. (y) And at that point, I think having the highest-denom T100K plaques in a larger size would be appropriate (although not necessary).
