I have to say, the show was very underwhelming.

Same vendors you find on eBay, no discounts, huge price tags.

Unfortunately I agree. There wasn’t much at the show we can’t find on eBay and hitting the regular sites. I’ve been once and wouldn’t go back.

Wish i knew of this before going. Planned an entire weekend around the meetup, ended up lasting 45 mins there mostly talking to another PCF member.

Yeah idk. Gotta go atleast once to consider yourself a chipper. And some may like it. Just not ideal for set collectors. And our hobby certainly isn’t mainstream lol

I usually pop in for a few minutes but somehow I always leave feeling a little depressed. That's not what you want from a hobby that you enjoy.

I had low expectations this year but it was the best year yet. Picked up a set to get the $5s out of it, and some really great singles. Finally finished my second rack of fracs from a Missouri casino.

Of course almost everything good was purchased on Thursday. Friday is OK and Saturday everything good is sold and dealers are packing up.

I returned this year after a little hiatus (the last CCA I went to was in 22). The show was much smaller than the last time I went, and it seemed that some vendors had very little chips and just had other types casino collections. Spoke with another forum member who attended last year, and he had the same impression of last year’s show.
Agree with others impressions that most vendors had an online presence and not willing to deal (although I did get a really good deal on a chip I’ve been hunting for a long time). I can tell you this was not the case when I attended my first 3-4 CCAs. There were many vendors that never dealt online, I saw chips I had never seen or knew existed or only had seen in the ChipGuide, and on Saturday they were very willing to deal so they didn’t have to haul it out. I felt like I saw everything after the first hour, which never been the case before. Originally, I was planning on going Thursday and Saturday. I went Thursday and never came back.

It was better before WW. I’m not kidding, this is one area where he was really felt. All the pie in the sky gonna strike it rich chip dealers saw what he was doing and are still trying to sell him chips. It’s like the cargo cult people, they keep hoping the eagle will shit again.

I’ve been to the show 4 years in a row now. Almost all singles. Almost all overpriced. Almost all the tables are eBay sellers or have an online storefront. There’s zero hope for set builders as 1) you won’t find anything you’re hoping for and 2) if you did it’s a single in a case for 5x what you found on PCF. Every seller is happy to tell you how much a chip should be according to the price guide that one of them arbitrarily sets and prints every year. The chips all lean old and increasingly irrelevant to the few young chippers out there.

Having said all that it is an experience worth doing at least once. Seeing a chip in person can be very different from a picture on the internet. You never know what interesting things you may discover as well. Like a toilet seat made from genuine TRKs.

Next year instead of anchoring my wsop trip around the chip show I’m going to pick the wsop events I want to play and if the chip show is during that time I’ll drop by again.

I know the feeling. The crowd ain’t getting younger. Walkers are more and more common. I think chip collecting will be half dead or more in 20 years. Maybe the CCA should do a combined event with Pokemon cards.

First and last time for me.

eBay vendors were what stood out, online prices or higher, which they didn’t even flinch at offers.
Almost like they didn’t want to sell anything.

Walked the entire floor in 15 minutes, spoke to another member for 30 minutes and I walked out the door. Pretty sad event.

I go bi-monthly to trading card events and spend hours at one vendors booth, I didn’t feel welcomed at the worlds smallest largest poker chip convention.
