Windwalker on Hustler Casino Live?!?!?!?!?!? (4 Viewers)

It’s the next hot dog sandwich debate. Is the Terminology dependent on the cards being used?

I really enjoyed the stream last night. I actually upgraded to YouTube premium so I could watch Picture in Picture while I played pokerrrrr2. Loved all the PCF call outs and chip discussions. Well done Krish!

for what it’s worth poker wise I prefer Andy and Garret to Art and Nick. Bigger pots and action. Nicks table talk is good though

I actually like Art a lot, the rest of those guys (Krish aside) were nitting it up, at least when I was watching. And it's a joke they gave "nice guy" Armenian Mike a spot
I agreee. Eff Armenian Mike. I also like watching Art but I prefer him at the table with Andy and Garret. He was the best player at the table last night so he wasn’t getting splashy. Nick was in host mode not crush mode so I though he soft played a few spots. I wonder if the folded bluff he was chirping about all night was just for the cameras. He might be playing the long game trying to make the stream more entertaining.

Term of art is a word or phrase that has a specialized meaning in a particular field or profession. IMO, in the context of poker, monotone, as in monotone flop, is a term of art used to describe a group of cards that are all of the same suit. Monochrome would also be a term of art with the same meaning as monotone that is used to describe cards of the same suit, not color.

In other words, every poker player knows what the words monotone and monochrome mean in this context.

I'm glad Nick was there to try to liven up the chatter (something Krish does as well, I guess it's not surprising the two of them ended up talking about poker chips at length). Would love to see Stanley again, he proved to be a stronger and trickier player than everyone in the live chat was expecting, would love to see him matched up against Garrett / Andy / Gal. Art was good to have at the table as well, a strong player and a talker with a good voice.

I'd like to see Bill Klein in the announcer booth. I mean, he barely talks at the table, but maybe if he's not playing he might loosen up and tell us what he really thinks about what's going on, preferably by saying stuff like "That guy's an idiot" and so forth.

In particular, this term of art probably came to mean "all the same suit" in poker by way of a secondary derivation. "Monotone" originally meaning "one tone/note/sound" from its Latin roots, then producing "monotonous" meaning "speaking in a single tone" as a way of literally describing a speech pattern, then giving way to the metaphorical meaning of "dull, boring, repetitive" and no longer strictly referring to sound, as in "a monotonous task".

... which then produces the term "monotone" in poker to describe a board which is repetitive, carrying with it the figurative impression of suits as tones, even though as @inca911 points out the literal term would be "monochrome". But English, delightfully, is capable of both literal precision and figurative expression, and so now we have monotone flops.

Most flops are monoolfactory, they just all stink the same

Although "monochrome flop" might be more accurate, the term "monotone flop" is commonly used in both written and spoken English. It's interesting that a google search for "monochrome flop" produces results for both monochrome and monotone flops. I suspect that this is or will be yet one more example of a word or phrase that is so widely used that its usage becomes acceptable.
Couldn't it also be used as monotone for the suit name that is spoken, like "all spades". I actually think of it more from that aspect than the color...........
@inca911 ??

Let's further confuse this debate. Shouldn't it be "homo" vs "mono" as mono- evidently generally refers to a single source where homo- refers to multiple sources (three cards)?

I propose "homosuit flop".

I'm "homosuitual", not that there's anything wrong with that

Do you know at what part in the stream they are talking poker chips at length ?

Watched some of the replay on youtube, thats one hell of a crazy story Krish about Croatia! Reminded me of the movie Open Water. Probably one of the worst ways to go... Cold, slow and taking in salt water.

found where they are talking chip[s I think

it's around the 255:00 mark I believe

Not a great night, but the highlight of the evening is that I may be able to help get a new set of chips designed specifically for HCL. Cali colors, and an HCL-specific inlay. Nick seemed really into the idea. I’ll keep you posted on progress there.
While those chips are ugly as sin, they’re perfect for TV. Very large black denom on a XXL white inlay (mostly). You can clearly read them. I wouldn’t change a thing.

I couldn't disagree more. They all look like one giant white chip because of the jumbo XL inlay. It's impossible to tell the color of the chip, which is more telling than a way-too-skinny-for-TV denom font, and you can't even tell the difference between the 500, the 1k, or the 5k when you CAN manage to see the edgespots. An all around mess.

Yeah, I find it much easier to read the denom off the chip, count the number of chips in the pot and size up the players stack, all from an awkward tv angle than just read what the graphic shows. Filthy casuals.
