Windwalker’s Chipping Journey in Pr0n0grAph1C Detail (13 Viewers)

Game changing find for me, at least. I don’t plan to release any of them out. :)

oh yes of course, honestly, I wouldn’t either :D
I meant knowing there is more sets out there that we didn’t know about, part of a boat chip collection from someone who was close to their design...that’s the game changer (well ok maybe just for me then  :ROFLMAO:) - definitely incremental knowledge for this community!

I have no idea, nor do I actually care. Chips, to me, are the epitome of examples of where design thinking and strategy are critical. Very few people have the eye to know how to build them.

For my money, @JeepologyOffroad has the best eye on PCF, that’s up to my personal taste.

This particular gentleman and his company were absolutely brilliant with design. Reserved, measured, balanced and beautiful.

Chips are so subjective though. Everyone has different tastes.

I do love alot of @JeepologyOffroad chips too. The hot stamps he is able to find are always awsome.

For me its oldschool leaded thcs because of the feel and design. There are beautiful trk, BCC, rhc, and even plastic and ceramic sets out there. The old leaded thcs just really have it all.

he was able to secure small live sets (1500 - 3000 chips) of almost every set his firm designed
Did he give any insight as to who decided on the breakdown etc? Were the sets sizes supposed to be used with a particular game in mind? Poker, Craps, Black Jack etc? Or just to represent a % of the actual totals in the casino? i.e. a mini version of the casinos entire set.

That’s really a shame, would love to see at least some of these sets spread out amongst the community so more people could experience them outside of just photos of a hoard.

Regardless excited to see them, there are a handful of different wet sets I’ve dreamt about discovering a playable set of, sounds like there’s a good chance they’ll be in this lot.

Omg congrats Krish! Cannot wait to see the pr0n!

My goal for the previous post was to primarily provide some basic info and put an end to the speculation. I haven’t examined everything in detail, I just made a mass purchase, and will sort through them later. Right now, just trying to figure out freight / insurance and delivery, since I definitely don’t have space for 95,000 chips in my high rise.

That’s the most I’ll be saying about this until I decide to post some Pr0n. As someone mentioned earlier, there are dozens of PCFers with incredible sets that they never talk about / write about or post photos of. For now, just consider these among those.

I was excited, so I mentioned it.

Out of curiosity have the chips been modified in any way? I couldn't imagine any casinos now allowing uncancelled chips out in the wild.

No, they’re not. That’s why I mentioned that they “had to be handled differently because they were live”.

His VP of Ops came up with an ingenious escrow-based system that allowed him to have the sets for the company’s portfolio, and included some of the chip value in his actual compensation. As someone who runs a consulting company, I thought the system was quite smart.

Would have been an even smarter decision if he got what is the current going rate for leaded THC.

Totally understand you not wanting to share any further info at this stage given the recent fiasco with other members ruining another members' "completed" deal. I would be getting those chips into your possession ASAP as I'm sure the internet sleuths will already be searching to see who Mr Delaware is.

Congrats on the score of chips! Was very nice to hear your story and it shows your passion for chipping that you want to seek out and hear all the details behind the chip.

Like many of us if we ever were in your position:

It’s one thing to buy up 95k chips from one casino. I could look at about 10k of the chips and be like “that’s cool”

But 95k chips made up of 48 perfect little playable sets is incredible and unimaginable. I’m sure there are 48 different playable casino sets on pcf, but not a lot more. Imagine WW telling us to guess the casinos and being right 48 times!!

I need photos of them in:
stacks (side and aerial)
in cases and trays
individual chips
sample sets
splashed pots, starting stacks
and individual chips with corresponding color samples next to it.

That is such an epic story. Good for you!

also... am I the only one that finds irony in another score of boat chips?

what you need and what you get might just be vastly different things.

Maybe if it was someone other than WW acquired the chips.

WW is a collector, but he’s also a photographer. I vaguely remember him mentioning photography is one of his hobbies. Which is why him being a collector and amateur photographer is perfect for us. He’s posted some of the best photos on pcf reminiscent of DrJohn. I have zero doubts WW won’t deliver on some incredible pron. but he might even hire a professional. Honestly the occasion would merit it.

The vitriol here has reached epic levels.
Chip wars 2021 tip 28:
If needed, virtual pitchforks can be disintegrated by clicking ignore.

PCFers with incredible sets that they never talk about / write about or post photos of.
Some people are just mean and lazy. :ROFLMAO:

I might post occasionally if I have extras or want to do a trade, but I’m limiting my future transactions primarily to PMs.
@Tommy can you make sure Conversations is functioning properly.. still haven’t received a PM...
 :whistling: :D

See, I kinda figured he found a boat, derelict in some harbor and bought the boat to get all the chips on board.

The idea of 'I got the guy who designed the chips for the boats' is some really next level shit.

Way to go @Windwalker

Seriously, maybe some kind of really niche museum?

I can imagine this story being made into a movie. Sitting in a theater and watching the scene of WW and OMC sitting on his deck sharing a moment without saying anything. So poignant a tear forms in my eye. My wife looks over at me and says, “really??!? This is what you cry at??!? Is this movie just about some poker chips?!!?”

rotten tomatoes gives the movie 12%. Lol

To be fair:

a) porch because COVID.

b) the silence thing was funny, because sometimes he’d ask me a question, I’d respond, and then he’d sit there pondering my response. I’d wait for him, and then sometimes, minutes later, he’d say something like “what do you think of that twat Newsom?”

As I’ve been hunting for chips, I’ve tried all kinds of strategies. I’ve placed tiny classifieds all over the world; I’ve spent time at estate sales; I’ve made friends with collectors and casino owners.

But no matter the avenue, my best results have come from establishing genuine relationships with people who used to be connected to some of the casinos that used leaded chips with shaped inlays.

A few months ago, one such relationship tipped me off about a gentleman, now in his early 80s, who was once considered the “Saul Bass” of boat / cruise casino design. For about 30 years, his design shop was responsible for the visual identity, design/re-design and development of thousands of artifacts for hundreds of boat casinos, including what their chips looked like. It’s actually why so many of the boat chips from the late eighties and early nineties are so similar looking to each other.

I was able to track him down to Delaware, where he is now retired, curmudgeonly, and frustrated with his inability to do anything because of COVID. I made friends with him, and paid him a total of 6 visits so far, sometimes just sitting on his porch with him in silence.

We discussed the evolution of the design industry, what’s happening now, what’s changed and what hasn’t. Through those discussions, I discovered that as part of his compensation, he was able to secure small live sets (1500 - 3000 chips) of almost every set his firm designed. Of course, he also has all kinds of other artifacts, but the chips had to be handled differently because they would have been live at the time of him getting them for his portfolio.

These chips have never seen the inside of any of the boats, cruises, or casinos they were intended for. They have just been in his possession for decades. He had no idea there was even a group or a community that collected them, and considered them just nostalgia since all of the casinos are now defunct.

I convinced him to sell me his entire portfolio / inventory of chips. There are 48 boat casinos in the collection, between 17-22 of which I am fairly certain no one has ever seen on PCF before.

So that’s the story.

EDIT: FYI — He was responsible for the Starlites, RVCLs and Regency Cruise Lines.

I have not kept up with this thread recently, but this sounds like an incredible experience. I hope he welcomed you to share some of his stories so that they are not lost. Congrats on the chips as well as the experience.
