Curious about the world popularity of soccer, I just stumbled upon this little gem, courtesy of Google auto complete...

You must be a real hoot at parties.

"Hey everyone! Phaze12 is here to ruin all of your jokes!"

lol. sorry just thought short and sweet was the best approach. didnt want to get to deep.

edit - had a few cocktails, didnt reallly get the ops' gist.

popular because all you need to play is a ball.

And you don't need arms, unless you're a goalie.

But you do need acting ability, like Tapia in Peru/Colombia tonight. Opponent's left hand goes across his chest, lightly taps his left shoulder, and he grabs his nose and goes down like George Forman just nailed him with a straight right.

They need slo-mo replay by an "Acting Official", and if a guy conclusively fakes it, he's either ejected, or a ten-minute penalty, or something along those lines. Or stand him up on the sideline and let Zidane head-butt him in the schnozz for real...

There was a bit on Sports Night where the 2 main characters were discussing what it would take to make soccer interesting.

The first guy suggested bigger goals.

The second guy countered with smaller goals, but no goalies.

I like the idea of the smaller goals with no goalies.

I'm trying to envision this... And all I can think of is a little toy like goal, like Stonehenge by Spinal Tap.

I'm laughing my ass off over here thinking about this on a soccer field.

Or any NBA game.

There's actually a fair amount of truth to this. If you've ever travelled in central or south america, you'd almost certainly have encountered numerous kids who have next to nothing, but they can play soccer. When I was in Colombia, I saw kids playing soccer on concrete basketball courts with no shoes on. It's a game that can be played regardless of how much money you have. Most gameswe play in the US, this isn't the case. Basketball is probably the next cheapest sport... which is another popular game in poor countries (think Philippines)

Soccer is the only sport that I can watch a whole match. I can't get through an inning of baseball, and I only watch football when somebody is having a Super Bowl party. But I'll watch every game I can when the World Cup is on, which is practically the only time any of the channels I get show soccer. I guess you like the sports you grow up with.

It's only soccer in one place... the rest of the world calls it football. Because, like, you kick a ball with your foot the whole game...

*When you're not heading it, chesting it, or are the keeper etc etc...

Edit - the discussion above harks back to an old bud advert

First of all soccer (or football in the rest if the world) is awesome. Between the Euros and Copa America Centenario it has been a great week of sports. Secondly calling something you don't like "gay" is hardly funny, especially in light of what happened in Orlando just a week ago.

Dude.

It's Google.

It's one of those... You know...

Oh, forget it.

I don't think you were being intentionally insensitive, but I'm pretty sure people who are LGBT think someone calling something they don't like "gay" is offensive. And considering somewhere between 4% and 10% of the population is gay depending on what survey you believe, that's not an insignificant amount.

One of the few sports that women play a much more enjoyable game to watch. Actual excitement for much of the match

Stickball, (or half-ball in Philly).

Touch football is cheap, too. And you don't even need a football, really -- a tennis ball or spaldeen will do.

Do they use pimple balls to play half ball in philly ?
That's all we ever used in East Boston
